Helen T. (Steinbaecher) Wood, 76

Helen T. (Steinbaecher) Wood, 76, of Lancaster, passed away after a lengthy illness on Monday, November 6, 2017 at home. She was surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Helen Mae (Kline) and Harry H. Steinbaecher. She had been married to the late John O. Wood, Sr.
Helen grew up in the Manor Ridge area of Lancaster where she shared an excitement of life. Helen enjoyed working with the Pennsylvania Junior Chamber of Commerce as an executive secretary. Hired in 1978 she helped 26 presidents transfer into the role that they were excited for. She was honored with numerous awards for her outstanding service. The Junior Chamber of Commerce even created an award in her honor: The Helen T. Wood Administrative Award. She was also recognized her as a statemen for the Jaycees.
Helen enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s’ sporting events. She enjoyed playing bingo. Over the years, she was involved in helping with various Bingo games throughout Lancaster County. She liked spending time with her pets and loved to relax by gardening. Helen and her father shared a special relationship after her mother’s death. Helen was exceptionally close to her sister-in-law, Ruth. Ruth took Helen under her wings and supported her throughout her teenage years. That relationship continued until Ruth’s passing. In Helen’s later years, she returned to Manor Ridge to live out the rest of her life.
Her family was very special to her and includes her children: John Wood, Jr. (Stephanie); Shari Wood-Thompson (Jack); and Lisa Klingseisen; her grandchildren: Andrew; Brittany, Brandon, Zach, Maddy, Lexi and Ally; her 2 great-grandchildren: Carter and Kaycee and her her sister-in law, Patsy Steinbaecher. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyler Klingseisen; and her brothers: John and Harry Steinbaecher as well as her sister-in law, Ruth Steinbaecher.
Friends and family will be received on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 6PM-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home and Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Rosary will be prayed at 8PM. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11AM at Sacred Heart Church of Lancaster, 558 W Walnut St, Lancaster, PA 17603. Family and friends will be received 1-hour prior. Interment will be private in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery at the family’s convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
