Harvey M. Mumma, 84

Harvey M. Mumma, 84, passed away at his East Hempfield Twp. home on Friday, May 17, 2019.

Harvey was born in Lancaster to the late Earl L. and Mary E. (McMillen) Mumma. He graduated from Hempfield High School with the Class of 1953 and earned his bachelor’s degree from Gettysburg College in 1960. While there, he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. He also served in the US Army Reserves from 1957 to 1963.

Harvey began his career as an engineer for the bridge building firm Bear Creek Construction and retired from there as vice president and partner.

Harvey was a member of St. Edward’s Episcopalian Church. He was a very avid golfer and longstanding member of Conestoga Country Club. He was also an enthusiastic member for over 20 years of the Columbia-Middletown Elks Lodge. He relished his annual golf trips with friends. He also loved winters in Florida and road trips through the western US with his late wife, Melinda. For many years he was also an enthusiastic coin collector.

Harvey leaves behind his beloved partner and high school classmate Shirley Laukhuff. He is also survived by his sons, Kenneth B. Mumma, husband of Moira, of Chester Springs, PA, and David L. Mumma, husband of the late Tammy, of Port Saint Lucie, FL; his daughter Nancy E. Mumma of Lancaster; his grandchildren Jenny Schafer and Kenneth R. Mumma and great-grandchildren Jordan and Chase. He enjoyed 57 years of marriage with his wife Melinda (Thompson) Mumma before her death in 2015. He was also preceded in death by his brother Kenneth E. Mumma.

A memorial service will take place Friday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at the St. Edward’s Episcopal Church, with The Rev. John H. Emmert officiating. Harvey’s family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church on Friday. The service will be followed by a light lunch at the church hall. Private interment will take place in Conestoga Memorial Park. Please omit flowers.
