Guy F. Swavely, Jr., 95

Guy F. Swavely Jr., 95, of Lancaster, passed away on April 28, 2019 at Landis Homes. Born in Pottstown, PA on July 21, 1923, he was the son of the late Alice Hart Swavely and Guy F. Swavely Sr. He graduated from Pottstown High School in 1941. He worked for a year at Bethlehem Steel before joining Armstrong Cork Company as a draftsman. He married his wife, Irene Stofko, in September of 1942 and they were married for 76 years.
In 1943 he joined the Army as an aviation cadet and graduated as an aerial navigator and 2nd Lieutenant. He was chosen to attend flight engineering school for B29s, from which he graduated in July 1945. After his military service, he returned to the engineering department at Armstrong and worked there until his retirement as a staff project manager in 1988.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife of 76 years, Irene, are his two sons; James Swavely, married to Carol, of Easton, and Robert Swavely, married to Carolyn, of Lancaster. He is also survived by four grandchildren; Karen Troxell and husband Corey of Lititz, Andrew Swavely of Easton, Kateri Verenna and husband Thomas of Easton, and James Swavely of Ft. Collins, CO, two step-grandchildren; Charles F. Braught III and wife Jenni of Lancaster, and John Braught and wife Hannah of Boston, MA. Additionally, there are two great-grandchildren; Ryder Troxell and Josephine Swavely, and two step-great-grandchildren Charles Braught IV and Grace Braught.
Guy enjoyed spending time with friends and family, following Phillies baseball, and Penn State Football. He also particularly enjoyed the years after his retirement, when he and Irene spent the winter months in St. Petersburg, Fla.
The family would like to thank the staff at Landis Homes – Ephrata House for the kind and compassionate care they gave to Guy during his time there as a resident.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at 7:00pm at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Guests will be received starting at 6:00pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Guy. Having worked with Guy for many years while employed at Armstrong, I especially remember him as such a nice person; one who everyone enjoyed being associated with. His accomplishments and contributios in life speak are to be celebrated at this time of sorrow.
