Gloria Jean Gerlitzki Rodman, 74

November 08, 2023

Gloria Jean Gerlitzki Rodman, devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at home with her husband by her side, after a four year battle with a rare malignant mixed Mullerian uterine cancer.

Born on April 4, 1949, in Long Beach, CA, she was the oldest daughter of the late Karl and Bertha Bryson Gerlitzki. Gloria lived in Lancaster all her life, graduated from McCaskey High School in 1967 and graduated from Millersville University in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Education. She later earned a Master’s degree in Elementary Education, also from Millersville. She began her teaching career at Warwick School District. She retired after 36 years of exceptional teaching and leadership, having spent her last 25 years in 2nd grade at John Beck Elementary School. She was a strong supporter of Warwick Education Association, having served most of her tenure as secretary.

In 1972, she married Reed Rodman and their 51 year relationship was very special, filled with love, common interests, mutual respect and their strong commitment to one another. Gloria is survived by two daughters, Kristin (Michael Schwarz) of Lafayette Hill, PA and Jennifer (Nathan Campbell) of Manheim, PA. Lovingly known as Oma, she loved her four grandchildren, Ryan and Audrey Schwarz and Lucas and Nora Campbell. Her daughters and grandchildren were the greatest joys in her life. She took every opportunity possible to attend their events and extend her helping hand.

Gloria loved to travel to Europe, the beach, the Caribbean, and to take cruises. She learned golf and became a very good bocce player in her retirement years. She was a long time member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Neffsville.

Gloria’s natural warmth and good nature drew people to her, resulting in countless lifelong friendships. She was a good listener and was open and accepting of all. She will be fondly remembered.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 17, 2023 at 11 AM at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Rd. in Lancaster. Family and friends will be received from 10:30 AM until the time of service. There will be a private interment.

Contributions in Gloria’s name may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church or the Ann B. Barshinger Cancer Institute. We are thankful for the loving care she received there over the past 4 years.

I am sorry to hear of Gloria’s passing. I grew up knowing Gloria and her sister Karen as her parents were close friends of my mom and dad Dorothy and Dick Davies.

Rodman Family,
So sorry to hear of Gloria’s passing. Although it’s been over 40 years since I lived in PA, I thought of Gloria often. She was a good friend and a wonderful roommate the year following our college graduation. I know she will be painfully missed by her loved ones.

I am totally devastated by the passing of Gloria. A truly amazing person. I always looked forward to seeing her and Reed at every 5-year reunion celebration for the J.P. McCaskey Class of 1967. Our last names were so close alphabetically that we saw each other quite a bit in high school. I am not surprised by the wonderful tributes of her, as a teacher, mother, and grandmother. She was truly one of the most loving, wonderful individuals I have known. With all my love, Chuck Grezlak (J.P. McCaskey, Class of 1967)

She was always fun to be around. As a younger girl she played piano besutifully. She was my cousin and even though we didn’t stay in touch I thought of her often. I am ever so sorry that she struggled with cancer. What a tragedy and loss of a very good person. Sharing her knowledge with those she taught. She will truly be missed by so very many.
