Glenn Walter Grove, 70

April 12, 2022

Glenn Walter Grove, 70, of Humble, Texas formerly of Lititz, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, April 12, 2022 after battling metastatic gastric cancer diagnosed on July 29, 2019. He was much loved and will be forever missed by his family and friends. Glenn fought cancer with such strength from both outside and from within. Each time Glenn was presented with a new plan of attack, he would agree to each with such a positive attitude and with no hesitation. He had the determination that he was going to beat this “beast.” Glenn knew he was truly blessed with such wonderful loving friends and family. There wasn’t a day that went by that he didn’t receive a phone call from one of them since his diagnosis.

Houston, Texas is where he met his wife of 41 years, Paula, at a disco called Xanadus during the disco era. He saw her walk by, asked her to dance and she said yes. They have been together ever since the night they met. Glenn leaves his son, Kenneth and daughter, Kristin (husband William) Battenfield and granddaughter, Lilly Battenfield, all of Humble, Texas. Survivors include his sister, Margie Schober (Lititz), and brother-in-law Bob Wiegand (Ephrata). In addition, niece Jennifer (husband Dave) Souders, nephew Darrell Baker, great-niece Brittany Wiedman (Austin Siegrist), great-great nieces Alina Siegrist, Alexis Baker and great-great nephew Austin Baker all from Lancaster County. Preceded him in death were his parents Kenneth and Kathryn Grove, twin brother Karl, and sister Paula Wiegand.

Glenn graduated from Warwick High School Class of 1969 and continued his education graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Penn State University in 1973. After graduation, he left with a fellow graduate/best friend to pursue work in Houston, Texas. Glenn had a 30 yr plus career as a Large Accounts Commercial Underwriter working alongside American General, The Hartford and retiring with Travelers Insurance. Glenn loved being outdoors and fishing. He took pride in tending to his multiple rose beds and maintaining a beautiful yard. He had a deep love for his pets; 2 dogs and 3 cats. He also found joy in feeding the raccoons in the backyard, especially when they came to the glass door begging for food. Glenn loved taking his dogs for long walks. He had a passion for watching Penn State sports teams, Houston Dynamo Soccer team, and both U.S. Mens/Womens Soccer teams. He was quite proud to inherit his family’s model trains. Glenn had his fraternal twin brother, Karl, build a dedicated room in his home to mimic areas of Lititz Springs Park (with running water) and Lancaster County. This train display was a featured article “Home is where the train is” in the Houston Chronicle newspaper 12-21-1998. His daughter Kristin and son-in-law William constructed, on a smaller scale, a beautiful train display depicting Lancaster County in the master bedroom for Glenn to admire always. Even though he moved away from Pennsylvania, he had tremendous pride in being from Lancaster County. Penn State University was forever in his blood.

Guests are invited to attend his Celebration of Life at 11 AM on Friday, April 29, 2022 at the Spacht Snyder Family Funeral Home, 127 S. Broad St., Lititz, PA 17543. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM.
