Gerard “Jerry” Pelger, 93

December 07, 2021

Gerard “Jerry” F. Pelger, 93, a fixture of downtown Lititz, passed away Tuesday, December 7 at Moravian Manor after living a long, full life. He was born in Lancaster County to the late Edward K. Pelger and Emma M. (Steely) Pelger. Jerry loved engaging in conversation with anybody who took the time to listen. He was a rich source of information regarding who was related to whom and where they lived in the community.
Jerry worked various jobs, starting at the Ditzler shoe factory and ending at the Chimney Corner and General Sutter Inn. He looked forward to his retirement days where he could find his spot on Main Street to chat with all the passersby.
Surviving is one sister, Mary. E Fry of Yardly, PA, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Cooney and Edward C. Pelger Jr., and two sisters, Anne M. Nuss and A. Blanche Dracoules.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jerry’s Graveside Interment service at Conestoga Memorial Park at 95 2nd Lock Rd, Lancaster on Friday December 11th starting at 10:00 a.m. All are also welcome to attend services following graveside at Spacht-Snyder Funeral Home at 127 S. Broad Street, Lititz, with a visitation starting at 12:00 p.m. and a memorial service at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may send contributions in Jerry’s memory to Moravian Manor 300 W. Lemon St, Lititz 17543 where he was lovingly cared for, for over 15 years, or to St. Paul’s E.C.C. 2120 Main St, Lititz 17543.

Condolences to the Family

December 22, 2021

My condolences to the family.  I grew up in Lititz and remember seeing Jerry around town pretty much every day.  Several decades later, I still remember his smiling face.  He truly was a man who never met a stranger.  May he rest in peace.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.  Jerry was one of the most genuine good people I ever knew.  Each time we would meet on the street he would recount the memories of having my Mother as his English teacher.  His smile was contagious.  He will be missed.  We are all from God and to Him we shall return.

I have lots of memories of Jerry; both seeing him at his Broad St. home when I visited Skip or seeing him pedalling around town on his bicycle.  He often was standing outside his home and I would chat with him when returning from Bollinger’s store. These are all old memories as we haven’t lived in Lititz since 1971.  He was certainly a Lititz fixture and will be missed.

I’ve  missed seeing Jerry around town these past amazingly 15 years. Having lived on Broad St he was a frequent visitor. I pray he rests in peace.
