George W. Stadler, 78

January 24, 2024

George W. Stadler, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on May 17, 1945, in New Jersey, George was the son of the late George A. Stadler and Magdelena Bichler. He was preceded in death by his sister, Isolde Idelberger, and his daughter, Renee Armstrong.

George leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, survived by his devoted wife, Bernice (Boots) Stadler, who shared over five decades of companionship. His loving spirit is carried on by his daughter, Shelly Overstreet (Rey Felix), sons Christian Stadler (Flora Stadler) and Andrew Stadler (Samantha Stadler), and son-in-law Paul Armstrong. George took great pride in being a grandfather to his ten grandchildren (Sara, Paige, Zack, Ben, Joey, Daley, Macon, Gabriel, Brynn and Gabe)

A graduate of Seton Hall Prep in South Orange, New Jersey, George continued his academic journey at the University of Detroit, earning a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Boots, and they married soon after in December, 1968 at St. Raymond Church in Detroit. George served his country stationed in Germany, as an active member of the US Army from 1968 to 1972, achieving the rank of Captain.

In 1973, George and his family relocated to Lancaster, PA, where he began his professional career as an engineer at Armstrong World Industries. He worked at RR Donnelley Printing from 1982 until his retirement in 2004.

A man of deep faith and commitment, George was actively involved in the St. John Neumann Catholic Church and Lancaster Catholic High School. His philanthropic spirit shone through his volunteer work with organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Off the Streets, Lancaster Community Meal Program, Matthew 25 Thrift Shop, Lancaster County Food Hub, Transitional Living Center, and Tabor Community Service.

Beyond his professional and community service, George had a passion for doo-wop music, cheering on the Philadelphia Eagles, swimming at the Lancaster YMCA, boxing at Rock Steady and enjoying annual vacations at Lavallette, NJ. Above all, he found immense joy in helping others and contributing to the well-being of the community at large. George’s absence leaves a void that will be deeply felt by all who knew him.

Friends and family will be received from 10AM to 11:30AM on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. A Funeral Mass will follow beginning at 11:30AM. Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Off The Streets at www.lancaster.offthestreetsnow.com.

Dear Boots and family,
I am saddened to read the news of George’s death. What a faithful servant and loving man he was.  It was both a joy and honor to serve with the two of you at Matthew 25 and to also serve on the Board with George. I believe that Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25 was his mission statement in life. He truly lived out the Lord’s commission to love and serve God and neighbor and made a difference in the lives of countless sisters and brothers in need, with joy and thanksgiving. His smile said it all.
I hold you and yours close in prayer.  May the light and the promise of resurrection to new and eternal life through Christ Jesus, our Lord and Savior, bring you comfort and peace.  And to George, I say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.  Rest in God’s love and peace.”
With love and prayers,
Linda Hanus

Please accept my heartfelt sympathy on the passing of George. He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love and commitment to his family and those he knew and interacted with. It was a privilege to serve with him whenever we were Sunday Scripture Readers at Catholic Mass.  Peace and Love,  Vin Kneizys

Boots and family,
George was someone we admired tremendously.  His dedication to volunteer work was surpassed by nobody that we know, except for you, Boots! He was a gift to the community and to all that knew him.  His death was a shock and we cannot imagine what your family is going through at this time.  God bless.
Forever in our prayers,
Kathy and Dave Kuhn

Dear Boots, Shelly. Chris and Andrew,  We were both so sorry to hear that George passed away.  One of our best memories of George was watching the two of you “cutting a rug” at Ted F.’s 40th birthday party.  Sometimes, George would be at the Y.M.C.A., finishing his laps on a Saturday morning before the swim meets.  What a neat activity to participate as a Master Swimmer.  Those are just only a few of his many life accomplishments, the ones that we remember the most.  He lived his life to the fullest.  We admire you both, Boots.  You two will remain with one another in our memories and I believe, for all eternity.  God be with you all and give you His peace.  Sincerely,  Susan and Mark Lutter.

Dear Boots, I am so sorry to read that George has died.  He was one of the nicest persons I knew, Gere and I thought the world of him.  I still remember his thoughtfulness during the scripture meetings we had at your house a lot of years ago.  And he always had a smile and nice word!  You and your children have my very deepest sympathy and my prayers.  Love, Peggy Frailey

To the Stadler family,
I am so sorry for your loss.  I knew George, but only briefly.  I remember him as being a very nice, congenial person.  I’ll light a candle for George at church.
