George M. “Dan” Bunting, 79
February 07, 1944 - January 04, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George M. (Dan) Bunting, Ephrata, PA, formerly of Scranton, on January 4, 2024, at the Lebanon VA Administration nursing care unit. His wife of over 55 years is the former Eileen Neutts.
Born on February 7, 1944, in New Martinsville, WV, he was the son of the late Edward and Estella Bunting of Cameron, WV.
George was a US Army veteran, who joined the Army right out of high school and served in Vietnam from 1966-1967. Upon his return he was stationed at Tobyhanna Army Depot where he met his future wife, and the couple moved to West Virginia where they welcomed the birth of their son, Jeffrey. They relocated back to Scranton when the lumber mill where George worked closed. He retired from Acme Distribution Warehouse, Denver, PA.
An avid outdoorsman, George loved hunting, fishing (in the rain!), bowling, and golf. Sunday afternoons would usually find him in front of the television, cheering on his favorite football team. He had a heart of gold and was always available to help anyone in need. Though he struggled in his last few months with health problems, he did little complaining and carried on his life as usual.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Jeffrey D. Bunting, Lititz; three grandsons: Daniel Bunting, Philadelphia, Michael and Martin Bunting, both in Oklahoma; a son, Michael W. Bunting, of Graham, TX; two sister: Twila McDiffitt, Ranson, WV, and Sherry Bunting, Harpers Ferry, WV; brother-in-law, Joseph Neutts (Doreen); sisters-in-law, Debra O’Neill (Bill) and Beverly Radeleff (Dale); and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Charles F. Snyder, Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543 on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 7PM. Family and friends will be received at the funeral home from 6PM to 7PM.
Rest in peace, Dan. We will miss you, and are thankful that you were in our lives. We will miss your friendly smile, your hearty laugh and your funny West Virginia anecdotes. Our Fort Myers vacations will not be the same without you, but we will raise a glass in your memory!
