George L. Branch, 93

George L. Branch, 93, of Lancaster, PA, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy, PA.
He was the husband of the late Ruth A. Jennings Branch, who passed away in 2003. Born in Pen Argyl, PA, he was the son of the late Clarence and Martha Houser Branch.
George had worked as a Sgt. for the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission for 30 years.
A decorated combat veteran of the US Army, he served as a Staff Sgt. in the European Theater in World War II, being decorated with the Combat Infantry Badge and, in 2009, the Bronze Star Medal. He later returned to the Army, serving during the Korean War, attaining the rank of First Sergeant.
George was a proud and active member of the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard, where he was involved in the rendering of military honors for 1074 Lancaster County veterans’ funeral services.
He was a member of Bird In Hand United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed amateur radio and was involved with a local amateur radio club.
George is survived by his three daughters: Georgia Lee Vore of Bedford, PA, Gale Louise married to Jack Burns of Conowingo, MD, and Sheri Ann married to Earl Voorhees of Warrington, PA; his 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Martha “Kay” Thomas of New Port Ritchie, FL. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Lambert.
Friends will be received on Thursday, March 6, 2014 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with the Funeral Service to follow at 11AM. Interment in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at 130PM. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in George’s memory to Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard, Box 8601, Lancaster, PA 17604-8601.

America just lost another hero from the greatest generation. George and I served together as original members of the Lancaster Red Rose Honor Guard. He will be sorely missed.

George was on my Tuesday Meals on Wheels route. I will miss him. We talked about lots of things, holidays, my travels to Santa Fe, the weather. We were always waiting for the warm weather. He was a delight and I always looked forward to seeing him. Shirley
