George Hanson Snyder, Sr., 93

George Hanson Snyder, Sr., 93, passed away at his Leola home on Sunday, April 30, 2023. His wife, Veronica Elizabeth (Hally) Snyder died in 1994.
Born in Media, George was the son of the late Hanson G. and Elizabeth (Walker) Snyder. He graduated from West Chester High School, where he played on the football team.
George served as a Private 2nd Class in the US Army during the Korean War with Company H 14th Infantry APO 25. He was a member of Post 7155 VFW in Trappe and American Legion Post #603 in Quarryville. In his earlier years in Newtown Square he would participate in the Color Guard for parades.
He was a self-employed contractor for many years, with the credits of building Tanglewood Golf Club. George also served as a constable for Newtown Square.
He enjoyed hunting for deer, elk, and moose out west and in Canada. George had his pilot’s license to fly floatplanes. He also enjoyed travelling to Florida, watching his son play football, and rooting for the Dallas Cowboys. He also supported his children in some Boy Scout events.
Surviving George are his six children, Mary E. V. Hoffken (William) of South Carolina, Karen Marie Dircks (Edward) of Felton, Michael Snyder (Krista) of Elizabethtown, George H. Snyder, Jr. (Candice) of Leola, Patricia Ann Becker (Daniel) of Elizabethtown, and William P. Snyder (Amanda) of New Holland; Seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and his brother Harold Snyder (Kristin) of Denver, CO.
Private graveside services with Military Honors will take place at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Quarryville, PA.
