George H. Murr, 96

George H. Murr, 96, formerly of Quaker Hills, Lancaster, passed away at Longwood Manor on Saturday, January 20, 2018. He was born in Lancaster to the late George H. and E. Pauline (Sherr) Murr. His wife of 57 years, Betty J. (Williams) Murr, passed away in 2002.
He served in the South Pacific operating amphibious landing craft during WWII as a fireman First Class in the US Navy. George worked as a mechanical supervisor for Kerr Glass in the cap department for 35 years, retiring in 1983.
He was a life member of American Legion Post #34, Lancaster and VFW Post 7296, Millersville, and a member of AMVETS Post #19, Lancaster. An avid hunter and fisherman, George was a member of Green Hill Sportsman Club, Conestoga and Riverside Camping Club. He enjoyed bowling and vacations to Ocean City, MD.
George is survived by two sons, Barry A. Murr, husband of Sarah, Columbia and Jere L. Murr, husband of Lisa, Lancaster; his daughter Barbara A., wife of Richard S. Fridinger, Lititz; 3 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren and Dottie Regan, his companion for the last 10 years. His brother Paul E. Murr and sister Shirley V. Boose preceded George in death.
George’s family will receive friends from 9-10 AM, followed by his funeral at 10 AM, on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at the Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Pastor Mark Thiboldeaux will officiate. Interment with Military Honors in Conestoga Memorial Park. Dear Pop Pop…i just learned of your passing today two years after u passed cause I’ve been living in Florida and I’m not very close 2 my father Jere…I want 2 thank U for the fun times on Pilgrim Drive and you should bet on the 4th race… number 7 horse and we are PENN STATE ❤
