George E. Kennett, Jr., 89

George E. Kennett, Jr., 89, of Lancaster, passed away at Lancaster Regional Hospital on Sunday, June 11, 2017. Born in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late George E. Kennett, Sr. and Clara Hecht. He was the loving husband of Muriel E. (Roehm) Kennett with whom he celebrated 68 years of marriage on June 4, 2017.
George retired from John Hancock Insurance Company in 1984. He was previously employed by RCA for 23 years as a staff manager. George also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, from 1941-1944.
George was a devoted Catholic and a life-long member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He volunteered many years at St. Joseph Rectory. He enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, and watching horse races. He was also an avid Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan. He always enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. His most cherished memories were of the many family vacations spent at the Jetty Motel in Cape May, NJ. George was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and he will be deeply missed by his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by children: Eileen Hoenninger (Joseph) of Lancaster, Michelle Dodds (Michael) of Mountville, Gregory Kennett (Kris Miller) of Lancaster, Jeffrey Kennett (Helen) of Lancaster, and Tammy Bechtold (Jeffrey) of East Petersburg; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Esther Shopf; his daughter, Stephanie Hickey; and an infant daughter, Denise Kennett.
The family would like to thank Comfort Keepers for their wonderful care in George’s final year.
Funeral services for George will be private. Please omit flowers. The family requests that contributions in George’s memory be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 440 Saint Joseph Street, Lancaster, PA 17603.
