Gary L. Paporello, 69
April 24, 2024
Gary L. Paporello (69) passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at home in Manheim after a brief illness. He was born in Jersey City, NJ and was the son of the late Louis Paporello and Doris (Pfeifle) Paporello. He spent many years living lakeside in beautiful Sussex County, NJ before retiring to Manheim, PA for the last decade.
Gary was an avid outdoorsman his whole life, growing up camping, canoeing, and doing other outdoor activities that eventually earned him the highest honors of his Eagle Scout award as a teenager. His years raising his family on Lake Lenape and teaching them to canoe, kayak, and play “King of the Dock” are some of his children’s favorite memories of Dad. In addition to keeping up with Teresa and the kids, Gary stayed active through swimming, running, biking, and participating in triathlons. Later in life as semi-retired snowbirds, Gary and Teresa had a second home in Wilmington, NC where they loved to take walks together on Wrightsville Beach. Just this last year, they traveled the country for several months in their RV together seeing many sights that had been on both of their bucket lists.
In his long career in the television and film industry, Gary initially worked as a field engineer for ABC Sports for 25 years, covering notable events such as Super Bowls, World Series games, the Indianapolis 500, and the Olympics. This transitioned to nearly 20 more years as an audio engineer for Good Morning America, in which he earned multiple Emmy Awards and a Peabody Award for his contributions to world news coverage. Gary always preferred being behind the scenes, but could also be found conversing and proudly showing off pictures of his family to everyone he met. In his retirement, he still enjoyed doing audio work for local churches and his retirement community.
Gary will be deeply missed by his wife Teresa of 38 years, daughter Kristen Rogers (married to Matt), son Kyle Paporello (married to Annette), beautiful new granddaughter Paige, and multiple “grandpups.” He is also survived by his two younger brothers, Glen and Keith. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, friend, and “Grumpa” who will be fondly remembered by all.
Family will receive visitors on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at St. Richard Catholic Church, 110 N Oak St., Manheim, PA 17545. There will be an 11:00AM Mass at the church and a luncheon to follow.
In lieu of cards or flowers, please consider donations in Gary’s name made to either St. Richard Catholic Church of Manheim or The Seeing Eye Inc. in support of the family’s beloved seeing eye dogs.

So sorry to hear about Gary’s passing. I remember him helping out with many activities for the Brookshire community building when I lived there. I would watch him ride his bike past my house and throughout the community as well. Teresa and family, you are in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

Dear Teresa and family, our hearts are broken over the loss of your dear husband and father. We too have lost a caring, helpful, friend and neighbor. The night of music that you and the band provided will not soon be forgotten. We all were treated to Gary’s singing style, much like Dean Martin. What a surprise! Gary was always willing to help in some way where there was a need. All the conversations we have had with you both, either on the porch or standing in the driveway stay in our memories. Most of them ended in such laughter! What a blessing for Gary and the family to receive a new baby girl! We pray for God’s loving arms to enfold you with peace and strength for the rest of the journey. In sympathy and love, Jere & Pat Buchter

Teresa, I am so sorry for your loss. Hard to believe just 4 months ago, you and Gary drove across the state to attend my mom’s funeral, which meant so much to my family. Gary looked so well and I enjoyed talking with the two of you after everyone left the luncheone. Who would have thought? I wish I understood God’s ways, but I know that His ways are not ours. I’ve been praying for your family since January and will continue to do so.

Teresa: To you and your beautiful family: We extend our deepest sympathy; on the loss of your beloved Gary! He was such an asset to Brookshire in his dedication to others within the community and serving all of us; with his personal time, using his knowledge and experience providing, working, and installing our sound systems; among other duties. He was always there to help those in need, and among that; his time spent volunteering on the HOA Board. We personally enjoyed fun times; especially enjoyed game bowling on TV, with Gary, you and others; during those wonderful New Year’s Eve gatherings; before Covid came along and up-ended everyone’s lives!! Loved and respected by many; he will surely be missed; but not forgotten; May God bring you and your family comfort; during this time.
