Gary L. Long, 60
January 11, 2017
Gary L. Long, 60, of Mount Joy, passed away at Masonic Village on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He was born in Lancaster to Betty Jane Swisher Long of Landis Homes and the late Howard M. Long. Gary celebrated 33 years of marriage with his wife Kristine L. Schumm Long last July 2nd.
A graduate of Penn Manor High School, Gary earned his airframe and power plant license from Houston Community College Rice Aviation, Houston, TX. He worked as an aircraft technician for Hobby Airport in Houston and then Lancaster Airport. He also owned a Snap-on Tool dealership in York County. A mechanic by nature, he fixed various kinds of vehicles and equipment. He enjoyed reading and was a member of Forest Hills Mennonite Church.
In addition to his loving wife Kristine and mother Betty, Gary is survived by his son Jason Long, husband of Kristen (Keesee) of York, daughter Heidi, wife of Caleb Jablonski of Harrisonburg, VA; grandson Emmitt Owen Long whom he dearly loved; three brothers, Glen L. Long, husband of Cathy (Martin) of Washington Boro, Galen L. Long of Ephrata and Gordon L. Long, husband of Tracy (Boulton) of Millersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary chose to have his body donated for Multiple Sclerosis research.
A memorial celebration will be held 4 PM Saturday, January 14, 2017 at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Rd., Leola, PA 17540, with Pastor Jon Carlson officiating. Friends may greet Gary’s family at the church on Friday from 6-8 PM and on Saturday from 3 to 4 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, PA Keystone Chapter, 1501 Reedsdale St., Ste. 105, Pittsburgh, PA 15233 or to the Mennonite Disaster Service, 583 Airport Rd., Lititz, PA 17543.

Dear Kris, Wayne and I were so sorry to hear of Gary’s passing from Phil, too late to attend the service yesterday. I know these must be very hard days for you and your family. We are surely thinking of you. Please try to take life one day at a time and be good to yourself. Maybe we can be in touch and go out to eat and talk sometime when it suits you.
