Garry Lee Todd, 60

October 26, 2023

It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we announce the passing of our son, Garry L. Todd, age 60, on October 26, 2023 at Hospice & Community Care Mount Joy after a 10-month battle with small cell lung cancer.

Garry was born and raised in Lancaster, PA. He was the son of Dorothy A. Polito and stepfather Daniel H. Diller. Garry was predeceased by his father John G. Todd.

Garry was a graduate of Manheim Twp High School, class of 1981. He was a proud former United States Marine. He was employed by High Steel and Ross Engineers as a spray painter for many years.

He had a great sense of humor and liked to tell stories, some of them true and funny, some not so much! He was very gentle hearted and worried about everybody else and not himself. He loved anything about the Civil War and Gettysburg. He was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins and Philadelphia Flyers.

Garry overcame a lot of obstacles in his life. He survived 3 strokes, he was clean the past 20 years, and he was sober the past 5 years, but cigarettes were one thing he could not overcome and that’s what killed him.

Surviving besides his mother and stepfather are his loving sister, Diane Myers (Randy), his dingy but loving aunt Cathy Walton, his son Dirk Ringler, and a number of cousins, aunts, and uncles. His uncle “Banker Bob” Walton predeceased him.

As per family wishes, private graveside services were held with a Military Honor Guard on November 2, 2023 at Brownstown Evangelical Cemetery, with Pastor Stephen Verkouw presiding.

The family thanks all the nurses, aides, and staff at Lancaster Hospice & Community Care for their care and compassion. All of you were great with Garry. Thank you. You made this heartbreaking time easier for all of us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Garry’s memory to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
