Gale R. Davis, 78

June 04, 2021

Gale R. Davis, 78, of Lancaster, passed away on June 4, 2021. Born in Darby, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert K. Sr., and Violet (Munson) Heilenman. She was the wife of George W. (Bill) Davis Jr. until his passing in 2008.

Gale will be remembered by her children for her drive to give her family more than she had growing up. The first in her family to graduate college, she recognized early on how much education could change her life.

Immediately after high school, Gale and Bill were married and promptly hit the road as Bill began his Army career. They’d go on to have 3 children before divorcing in 1968. Gale married again and would have 2 more children. At the age of 33 and after her 2nd marriage had ended, Gale began a journey that she believed would forever change the path of her and her 5 children. Gale enrolled at Delaware Community College to pursue the education she always aspired towards. Over the next 6 years Gale managed a series of full-time jobs, going to school 4 nights a week, and more than her share of Little League games and dance recitals. She came out the other side with a Master’s Degree from Drexel University while earning multiple honors along the way. She was always an exceptional student.

Gale used that education to help land a job at Millersville University where she worked for nearly 20 years in the role of Bursar. After retirement, Gale and Bill rekindled their relationship and were remarried with their blended family in attendance 45 years after they were initially married.

Those who knew Gale, knew that she loved the beach and being near the water. She was passionate about her family, her faith, and her Bill.

Her love and determination will live on in her children: George W. Davis III, husband of Maureen of Washington Crossing, PA, Russell K. Davis, husband of Kay of Havertown, PA, Scott A. Davis, husband of Elizabeth of Sacramento, CA, Christopher Meyers, husband of Jennifer of Washington Crossing, PA, and Kathleen A. Clemens, wife of Daniel of San Jose, CA, grandchildren: Kathryn P. Warfield (Nick), George W. “Will” Davis IV, Nikolas A. Davis, Danielle R. Carr, Calvin W. Davis, Christina J. Davis, Joshua C. Meyers, Samantha E. Meyers, Adam J. Clemens, and Kara S. Clemens, her great-granddaughter Layla, and brother, Robert H. Heilenman, Jr. of Glenolden, PA. She was preceded in passing by her husband Bill, parents and a sister, Deborah.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, at The Bachman Center, 633 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603 at 11 AM. Guests are invited to attend a visitation from 10 AM until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gale’s name may be made to Milagro House of Lancaster.

I’m very sorry to hear of Gale’s passing, and I offer her family sincere condolences. I worked with Gale for many years at MU and enjoyed a friendship with her as well.  I valued her judgment and thoughtfulness in both roles.
May she rest in Paradise with her long-time friend, Rachael Wywadis, who passed in 2020.  Again, I offer my sympathy to Gale’s family and other friends.
