Fred A. Douts, 84

Fred A. Douts, 84, passed away at The Glen at Willow Valley on Friday, September 27, 2024. He shared 43 years of marriage with his wife Shirley A. (Singer) Douts.
Born in Lancaster, Fred was the son of the late Charles D. and Ada Wissler (Erb) Douts. He graduated from Manheim Township High School and served in the US Army in Germany from 1958 to 1960, achieving the rank of SP4(T).
Fred worked as a carpet installer for many years. He was a school maintenance supervisor for the School District of Lancaster for 30 years.
Fred was an active member and former Trustee of First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg.
In addition to his wife Shirley, Fred is survived by two stepdaughters, Lori Pickell, wife of Elwood, of Millersville, and Kimberly Crothamel, wife of David, of Earleville, MD, two step-grandchildren, three step-greatgrandchildren, and his siblings, Irene Potts and James Douts, husband of Marilyn.
Fred was preceded in death by eight siblings, Charles Herbert Douts, Edyth M. Menditch, William C. Douts, Helen L. Friant, Doris Ann Douts, John E. Douts, Julia F. Douts, and Gerald E. Douts.
Friends and family are invited to the graveside service which will take place 11 am Saturday, October 5, 2024, with The Rev. Robert K. Bronkema officiating and Military Honors accorded at Strasburg Mennonite Cemetery, 1514 Village Road, Strasburg, PA 17579. A luncheon and time of fellowship will follow at the First Presbyterian Church of Strasburg.

Dear Shirley,
I remember with such fondness the kind and compassionate man Fred was at James Buchanan when our 4 children attended there all those years ago. He was always so accommodating and gentle; you two made such a nice pair. Please know you have my sympathy and my prayers of comfort at this time.

Fred was a good person. I enjoyed working with him at Buchanan School…he always had a positive outlook on life. My thoughts and prayers are with Shirley and the family.

Fred I will always remember working with you at Wheatland when I first started with SDOL. You and Billy and Fred and Parrish we were a team. Never will forget you! Shirley I was sorry to hear of Fred passing I always liked making him smile. May he rest in Peace. Semper fi

I meet Fred at WV where I was him and Shirley housekeeper ,wat a great guy ,funny omg we had great talks he will b missed thank u sir for ur service and may u R.I.P gone but never forgotten fly high Fred , love Tina 🇺🇲🙏💙
