Frank Kelly Muse, 73

October 04, 2025

Frank Kelly Muse, 73, of Leola, passed away on October 4, 2025, after a lengthy illness at the Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Mount Joy. He was the son of the late Arthur and Betty Lou Muse.

A native of Fort Worth, TX, Frank was a graduate of the University of Texas (B.S.), Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary (M.Div.), and Neumann University (M.S.). Ordained by the Presbytery of Donegal in 1990, he served congregations in Columbia, McConnellsburg, and East Waterford, PA. Before retiring in 2013, he ministered to the Presbyterian Church of Orange and Third-Westminster Presbyterian Church in Orange, NJ. After retiring from pastoral ministry, he continued his service to others as a drug and alcohol addictions counselor for True North in York.

A skilled carpenter, Frank worked for several construction companies between pastorates and even ran his own home improvement business for a time. A talented guitar player, he loved listening to music, especially blues and jazz. He also enjoyed landscaping projects and was an avid reader with a lifelong curiosity. In his later years, he was particularly interested in fostering Jewish-Christian dialogue and advancing reparative justice for African Americans.

Frank was an active member of Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster and frequently attended First Presbyterian Church of Lancaster.

He is survived by his wife, Dr. Sandra Reed; his mother, Betty Lou Muse of Dallas, TX; his sons, Austin Muse and Caleb Muse, both of Austin, TX; and two brothers, John Muse of Dallas, TX, and Mark Muse of Celina, TX. He was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Muse.

A memorial service to celebrate Frank’s life will be held on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:30 PM at Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, 328 W. Orange St., Lancaster.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Doctors Without Borders or Bread for the World.

I am so sorry to hear Frank’s death. Had always wondered what happened to him. Had not seen him since our freshman year in college while home on a break. But I spent many hours sitting behind him alphabetically in  REL classes. He was a smart, kind, interesting guy. And it sounds like his life was one well- lived. My sympathy to the family. Dear Sandra,
My heart sank as I read about Frank’s passing.  He fought hard to try to win the battle over his cancer.  May it be of some comfort for you and your family to feel the prayers of those who care and to know that Frank is in a far better place of no pain and suffering, but instead enjoying full praise and glory to our Lord and Savior.
Please accept my sympathies for your loss.  Denise Frey, H&R Block

The fabric of our community has been rent and leaves us feeling diminished. At the same time our collective tapestry is now even more beautiful and complete. We have another witness who is going before us into the more perfect presence of our CREATOR. This witness loved Jesus completely. Not in some cliche riddled way, but as a dangerous undertaking with real consequences. This pilgrim was highly intelligent and usually the most well read and knowedgeable presence in any gathering. But being well read did not mean bookish and out of touch with the pain and joy of the world. Precious Frank knew in every fiber of his remarkable being what it is to be a child of THE ALMIGHT. Frank was well acquainted with grief and suffering. Frank sauntered confidently into the more immediate presence of his TRANSFORMING CREATOR.
We will love Frank forever. We’ll remember him always. His kindness and courage. His wisdom and wit. And though he’s no longer in this time and space, we’ll never forget his remarkable face.
Now Frank, when I sang this simple tune to him, would be gracious in receiving it. I knew he had amendments and revisions he could have offered, but didn’t.
Frank could be a royal ornery cuss and know it all. A good mirror for me. We came to an understanding about which lines not to cross. His cussedness will be missed, because etched into Frank’s every action and thought were the intentions of I Corinthians 13.
Love is patient. Love is kind. Love does not envy. Love does not boost. Love is not proud. Love is not rude. Love is not self-seeking. Love is not easily angered. Love keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil. Love rejoices with the truth. Love always protects. Love always trusts. Love always hopes. Love always persevers.

To Sandy and all family members I am deeply saddened to hear that one of the brightest minds I’ve ever come across needed to head back home to heaven.  Who in the world will I banter theologically with or cut up about good ol’ Southern food?  Frank was a light in the life of our library community here at Lancaster Theological Seminary and I’ll never forget how he and I just cut up about how different folk respond to rhythms.  He will sorely be missed but I am ABSOLUTELY certain he is in the arms of his Lord and saviour Jesus Christ.  “Well done thy good and faithful servant now you enter into the rest of the Lord.”  I’ll see you soon my dear friend Frank!  Love the LTS Library Staff, Lancaster PA.  Rev. Dr. Chynaah Maryoung-Cooke
