Frank Frattarole, 92

July 29, 2023

Frank Frattarole, 92, of Lancaster PA, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2023.

Born in Johnstown, PA, Frank was the son of the late Frank and Katherine (Rubis) Frattarole. After graduating from Johnstown High School, he proudly served his country in the Air Force as an Airman First Class where he earned a National Defense Service Medal then went on to study engineering.

He was fortunate to marry the love of his life, Rachel (Tiracave) in 1961. Together they made their home in Lancaster, PA where Frank worked as an application engineer for Burnham Corporation before retiring. Frank always said his proudest accomplishment was his family.

Frank loved life and enjoyed it every day with his family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, fishing, and hunting as well as spending summers at Rehoboth Beach. He also enjoyed traveling the world with Rachel and was a devout Catholic and active in the church.

In addition to his loving wife of 62 years, Frank is survived by his three children: F. Mark Frattarole married to Nancy (Hess), Annette Frattarole, and Lisa Proto married to Tony. Also surviving are his seven beloved grandchildren – Olivia Strothers, Elizabeth Frattarole, Julia Strothers, Ben Proto, Anthony Frattarole, Katherine Proto and Anna Proto; and his sister, Joyce Turgeon. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and two sisters.

Family will receive friends Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Mary Mother of the Church, 625 Union School Rd, Mount Joy, PA 17552 from 10am to 11am with a Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11am. Burial to follow at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery.

Uncle Frank was a hero and a roll model of mine when I was a young boy. He let me go with him to that corner machanic’s garage in Johnstown and watch them work on those beautiful Packards. I chose Francis as my confirmation name not only because of St. Francis the patron saint of animals, but also because of Uncle Frank. I’m sure that all of his friends and family have fond memories from his long, loving and productive life. He will be missed.

I am sorry to see this obituary for Frank.  My father Clyde Miller and he were long friends from Johnstown and through Burnham.  Frank also helped me a couple of times moving some furniture when I was about to go to graduate school.  I am happy that Frank was able to spend a long time here on Earth with his loving wife and family.  I’m sure he was quite proud of his grandchildren as he was of his children.
My sympathies to the whole Fratterole family.  He will be missed by many.

My heart goes out to all of Uncle Frank”s family and friends. He was a wonderful man, beloved by all who knew him. My earliest memory of Uncle Frank was when Grandma sent me to the corner store. I always saw he and a friend working on their cars behind the store. He really loved those cars! God bless you, Uncle Frank, and bless your children and grandchildren at this most difficult time.

I will always remember my Uncle Frank fondly. He was always very gracious, calm, kind, and always had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face. He was happy being surrounded by family. He is one of those rare adults that would ask questions and be genuinely curious about our lives. I liked his wry sense of humor from an early age. He was just an all-around cool guy and raised three kids with good morals, self-reliance, and a strong sense of responsibility. Frank’s family served as a role model for our own. I will miss him and know he is up there at peace, reflecting on a life well lived.
