Francis “Butch” Crawford Strickler, Jr., 76, formerly of Mifflinburg, and most recently a resident of Lititz,

PA passed away peacefully on June 18, 2024 at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was born, October 22,1947 in Lewisburg, PA to the late Francis C. Strickler, Sr. and Lodie Wolfe Strickler. Butch was a proud graduate of Mifflinburg High School Class of 1965, where he was remembered for his favorite quote…..“you don’t say.” He was a standout three sport athlete who loved participating in football, basketball and baseball during his high school years.

After high school, Butch served his country with honor, first in the National Guard and later in the Army during the Vietnam War (1967-1970) . His dedication and service with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade (L.I.B) remained true throughout his life. Butch was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Linglestown Post 0272, and Hershey Post 3502, as well as the VFW Post 15040.

Butch was a devoted family man, married to his adoring wife, Jane Alverta Eberly for 50 years until her passing on September 6, 2020. He was a proud “Pop” and made sure to stay informed and up to date with his grandchildren, KateLynn and Jacob’s athletics from high school through their collegiate careers. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he was a passionate fan of the Philadelphia teams and enjoyed “watching” Nascar with Jane as he rested his eyes. Butch also enjoyed watching WWF with his son Michael and attended many local events throughout their younger years.

As an active member of the Mifflinburg community in the 80’s, Butch could be found in the dugout or on third base line, coaching Little League baseball. He was an active participant in various recreational activities, including pinochle, Yahtzee, and pool in his younger days. Butch and Jane shared many happy times at the casino, particularly enjoying the penny slots.

Francis is survived by his son, Michael Strickler, and his wife, Susan; his granddaughter, KateLynn S. Miller and her husband, Andrew, and his grandson, Jacob M. Strickler. Butch was predeceased by both his sister, Florence and her husband, Earl “Jim” Boop. They had four children Donna Duke (Curtis), Diane Rainer (Richard), Sharon Zimmerman (Laird), and Dennis Boop (Tammy). His brothers-in-law, Milt Eberly (Connie) and family; Harvey Eberly and [Gerri (recently deceased)] and family, his late brother-in-law, Norman Eberly (Anna Mary) and family. He leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to make special mention of Butch’s lifelong cherished friend and confidant, Lieutenant William “Bill” LeBlanc who impacted Dad in his own words, “made me a better man for knowing him”. You have blessed and changed our lives forever along with our new dear friend, Donut Dolly (you know who you are) – we are forever changed because of you! The Strickler family is eternally grateful. THANK YOU!!

A special thank you to the in-home caregivers and the staff at the Lebanon VA Medical Center for their exceptional care and support. Specifically, the staff on the third-floor unit and fourth floor Hospice staff! We are forever grateful for your kindness shown to Dad, our Vet, along with your encouragement, kindness, care and concern showered on us, his family.

Francis will receive full military honors in a graveside celebration at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on July 24, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Those planning to attend are encouraged to arrive by 10:30 AM.

Condolences to the Family

June 26, 2024

Butch put a smile on my face every day when I was caring for him. It was a true honor to be one of his nurses. We shared a few laughs and shed a tear once or twice. Most of the time those tears where because we were laughing so hard. Thank you for your service Butch. I will miss your smile.
