Eva C. Theros, 22
Eva C. Theros, wife of Aristoteles J. “Ted” Theros, 22 South Pearl St. Lancaster, succumbed Tuesday morning, July 11, 2006 after a very lengthy illness.
Born in Youngstown, OH on December 15, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Sophia (Deliou) and Steven Chomalou. Her family moved to West Chester, PA while she was of a very young age.
Eva was a 1942 graduate of Henderson High School in West Chester, PA, and a 1946 graduate of West Chester College (now University) where she earned a degree in elementary education. She then accepted a teaching position with the School District of Lancaster to teach first grade at the Lafayette School. She taught continuously from 1946 until her retirement in 1987, except from 1952 to 1964 to raise a family.
She had lived at the YWCA where she met her husband, Ted, at a dance. They were married February 4, 1951, and enjoyed fifty-five and a half years of marriage.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Jean A. Theros, wife of Peter Hedin of Atlanta, GA; and Julia M. Theros of Lancaster; and one granddaughter, Katherine Hedin of Atlanta, GA. She was preceded in death by two sisters: Dr. Edna Larsen, wife of Dr. Everett Larsen; and Katherine Donlon, wife of John Donlon, both of Philadelphia.
Eva was a member of the Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation of Lancaster, where she was a member of the Women’s Bible Class. She taught Sunday School for a number of years, faithfully volunteered at the annual church bazaar every year, was a volunteer in the church office for many years, a member and secretary of the Philoptohos Society (a philanthropic organization) and a member of the School District of Lancaster Retirees.
She traveled very extensively throughout the United States, visiting virtually every major city and attraction. Her hobbies included completing crossword puzzles, knitting and socializing with her fellow teachers and many friends. She thanks all those who supported her and helped her during her illnesses.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service from Greek Orthodox Church of the Annunciation, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603 on Saturday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Alexander Goussetis officiating. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park. A viewing will be held at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home 414 E. King St. on Friday July 14th from 7-9 p.m. with the Trisagion service being held at 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the preferred memorial contributions can be made to those organizations that make it possible to help others as they have helped Eva: American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603; and American Lung Association, 630 Janet Ave., Lancaster, PA 17601. As an alternative, memorials may be sent to the Greek Orthodox Church, 64 Hershey Ave., Lancaster, PA 17603.
