Eugene C. Riedel, 69

Eugene C. Riedel, 69, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, January 4 at Lancaster General Hospital. He resided at 1604 Eshelman Mill Rd. Willow Street and was formerly of 825 E. Walnut St. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Carl and Mary Louise Willis Riedel. He was the husband of the late Ida E. Hughes Riedel who passed away in 1998.

Gene worked for the City of Lancaster in the water & sewer dept. for 20 years, Burnham Boiler in the shipping dept. for a few years, and retired from Conestoga View where he was employed for over 20years. Mr. Riedel was very involved with the Democratic Party of Lancaster and was a committeeman for the party. He was a judge of elections at St. Steven Lutheran Church, S. Duke St., and also at Christ United Methodist Church, E. Walnut St. He was a member of West Willow United Methodist Church, Willow Street, and a former member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lancaster. Gene was the past president of the Board of Trustees at Christ United Methodist Church and was the District Chairman for the United Methodist Men. He loved the city and the people of Lancaster and did whatever he could to improve their lives. Gene also enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by three sons, Eugene C. Riedel, Jr. of Lancaster, John Scott Riedel and R. Kevin Riedel, both of Mount Penn, PA; a special friend with whom he resided with, Linda J. Moser; and a brother, Steven Riedel of Ephrata. He was preceded in death by one brother, James Riedel.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend funeral services from West Willow United Methodist Church, 118 West Willow Rd., Willow Street, on Tuesday at 11AM. Friends may pay their respects to the family on Monday evening from 7-9PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, and again on Tuesday from 10AM until the time of service at the church. Interment in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. Please omit flowers. Memorial Contributions may be made in Gene’s memory to Willow Street United Methodist Church.
