Eugene B. Simasek, 88

March 24, 2025

Eugene B. Simasek, age 88, of Willow Street, PA passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born in Johnstown, PA, Gene married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Freidhoff on August 8, 1959. They raised 6 children in Havertown and West Chester, PA. Gene was a devoted and loving father to Bernie (Sara), Steve (Linda), Beth Conway (Frank), Lori Elwood (Steve), Amy McEvoy (Bob) and Holly Sciortino (Nate) as well as 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard, and Josephine, as well as his brother Ronald and his wife, Bonnie. He is also survived by the 3 daughters of Ron and Bonnie from the Johnstown area.

After graduating from DeVry technical institute in 1958 with a certificate in Electronics, Gene spent his career with Unisys (formerly Burroughs) as a Systems Engineer.
Gene was a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus and served in the National Guard.

Gene was a true “Renaissance Man” – talented at a wide variety of skills. He could fix just about anything – from electronics to cars to TVs. He was a D.I.Y. expert before YouTube…he replaced multiple roofs by himself, was an avid cook, baker, photographer, and painter. Everyone loved his corny “dad jokes.” He and Dolores very much enjoyed traveling. Although a man from humble beginnings, he instilled a strong work-ethic and sense of devotion in his loving family – who will miss him greatly.

The family will receive guests on Tues., April 1st from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, followed by the funeral mass at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike Lancaster, PA

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Gene’s name may be made to Catholic Charities.
