Esther M. Guiles, 79

Ether M. Guiles, 79, of Manheim Twp., died Sunday March 9, 2014, at Hospice & Community Care, Mount Joy. She was born in Lancaster to the late Arthur and Ruth Degler Hammel. Esther was married to Glenn G. Guiles for 50 years.
She worked as a secretary for Community Hospital of Lancaster for 30 years and was a hostess and waitress at various restaurants, including Mazzi’s. Esther was a member of Conestoga Country Club and she was an avid Philadelphia sports fan.
Surviving in addition to her husband Glenn are two sons, A. Michael Evans, husband of Aggie of Lancaster and Christopher J. Guiles, husband of Laurel of Seattle, WA, a grandson Justin Evans and her twin sister Ruth Homsher of Lancaster. Esther was preceded in death by her brother Arthur Hammel.

I also worked with Esther at the East of Eden Pub. The staff was like a family and to many of us Esther was like a second Mom. I didn’t realize how much I missed her until I read about her passing. Goodbye to a wonderful, kind, great lady. Dean Kaufman

Dear Glenn, So sorry for loss! I worked with Esther for quite a few years at East of Eden, what a lovely and charming gal! will always remember her smile, great sense of humor and fabulous taste in clothing! everyone loved Esther! she will be missed. please extend my condolances to your family.

Dear Glenn, We are deeply saddened by the news of Esther’s passing and cannot comprehend the loss you feel. Esther was a genuine source of joy and love in our lives. Our memories are sweet and we can never repay her kindness.
50 years! you are one hell of a couple. She certainly knew how to choose well in love – and we are happy recipients of her matchmaking!

DEAR GLENN,
I knew esther for 8 years while i worked in ultrasound at community hospital of lancaster…She was a bright and shiny star of our radiology department….I will never forget her kindness generosity and innner and outer beauty….I ran into Esther at first friday in November of 2013 and I had no clue she was sick….She was radiant . Even her illness couldnt bring her down…..I am so glad to have had that last hug and interaction with her…..Never realizing it would be my last….My deepest sympathy is with you now as you morn Esther…but know she is in good company…I imagine with Dr. Pulich….May God give you comfort and may Esther’s memory be eternal….from Jo-Anne Shellhamer RIP my dear friend.
