In Loving Memory of Esther Marie Vega Ponce
Esther Marie Vega Ponce, age 81, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on November 15, 2023. She was born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, to the late Gregorio and Elena (Roman) Padin. Esther’s life was a tapestry of love, creativity, and devotion to her family.
After completing high school, Esther pursued her passion for design, specializing in creating exquisite wedding dresses. Later in life, she transitioned into a role as a personal caretaker, demonstrating her compassionate and nurturing nature. Esther had a special talent for needlework, and her creations were a testament to her artistic flair.
Her interests were varied and reflected a life well-lived. Esther found joy in flower gardening, relished the simple pleasures of shopping, and challenged her mind with word search puzzles. Cooking was another avenue through which she expressed her love and creativity. Her independence was reflected in her enjoyment of driving, a source of freedom that brought her great satisfaction.
Esther’s spiritual side was profound, as evidenced by her love for singing hymns and delving into biblical scripture. She was a member of the First Spanish Assembly of God. Her faith was a guiding light in her life, providing strength and comfort.
Above all, Esther cherished her family. She is survived by her loving husband, Ramon Marrero, and her children Gregory Esteves (husband of Jennifer, residing in Florida) and Doris Vega of Puerto Rico. Esther’s legacy extends to her grandchildren: Angie Esteves (wife of Carlos), Gregory Esteves, Jr., Melissa Esteves, Jessica Esteves, Evelyn Rivera Edmondson (wife of Chris), Emely Lopez, Emilio Lopez, Eveliz Flores, Fernando Flores, Jr., Catherine Vega Van Anda (wife of Chris), and Carlos Vega and her great-grandchildren, Jaishun Gault, Shayla Gault, Christopher Edmondson, Caiden Edmondson, Amir Edmondson, Emilo Lopez, Jr., Alana Hillborn, Savanah Hillborn, Caleb Hillborn, Navaeh Torres, Carlos Torres, Joslyn Esteves, and Antonio Esteves who all brought immense joy to her life. Esther is also survived by her sisters Carmen Ramos and Gloria Roman Arroyo, along with many cousins. Niece and Nephews, Rebecca Melton(niece), John Patterson, III (nephew), Katherine Ramos (niece), George Vazquez (nephew).
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons Antonio Esteves and Juan Carlos Vega and Grandson, Jose Abner Lopez Jr.
Esther Marie Vega Ponce’s legacy is one of love, resilience, and a deep commitment to family. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Family will receive friends on Monday November 20, 2023 at First Spanish Assembly of God, 626 S. Duke St., Lancaster, PA. 17602 with a service to begin at 12pm. Burial to follow at Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery.
