Esther B. Johnson, 99

July 12, 1922 - March 25, 2022

Esther B. Johnson, met the Lord at age 99 on Friday, March 25, 2022 at Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

A lifelong resident of Lancaster County, she was born in Peach Bottom to the late Charles Boynes and Blanche Hopkins Boynes. Esther shared over 50 years of marriage with her husband Howard Eugene Johnson, Sr. before he passed away in 1995.

Esther worked as a beautician at the former Carrie Evans Beauty Salon in Lancaster, and she was a wonderful homemaker, wife and mother. While her husband Howard worked to provide for the family, Esther ran the home with a loving iron fist to rear their eight children and maintain the home.

As a child she attended Mount Sinai American Methodist Episcopal Church in Peach Bottom with her family. Esther was a faithful member of Coatesville First Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where she served as Treasurer, Secretary and Deaconess.

Esther is survived by her son, Clarence Richard Johnson, husband of Bonita Simmons-Johnson of Statesboro, GA, her daughter Joanne E. Mallory, wife of Arthur of Tampa, FL, her son Mark S. Johnson of Spring Grove, PA; 13 grandchildren, Tyrone E. Johnson, Thomas Jones, Shauna Efkovich, Sherri Lewis, Mindy Moore, Erika Helwig, Lisa Johnson, Hope Gates, Trevor Gates, Arron Gates, Coby Johnson, Meagan Johnson, and Teresa Johnson; as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Esther was preceded in death by seven children: twin infant daughters – one stillborn, and Barbara Ann who passed away at age 3 months, and her adult children, Howard E. Johnson, Jr, James Robert Johnson, Carol Elaine Johnson, Stephen Allen Johnson, Yvonne Lynn Johnson; her grandchildren, Tonya L. Johnson and Shuron Johnson; and her 11 siblings.

Homegoing services will take place at the York Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2220 Roosevelt Avenue, York, PA 17408 on April 10, 2022, at 2 p.m. No repass will follow the service.

Interment will be in the family plot at Mount Sinai American Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery in Peach Bottom.
