Elvin N. Landis, 97

December 19, 1926 - July 26, 2024

Elvin N. Landis, 97, of Lititz, Pennsylvania died on July 26, 2024, at home where he lived for 40 years. The transition into the arms of Jesus was welcomed, underscoring his unfailing faith in God. Mr. Landis was born on December 19, 1926, in the 200-year-old family farmhouse neighboring his home. He was the son of Noah O. Landis and Katie Newcomer.

On November 28, 1946, he married Dorothy Witmer Hertzler. He was a lifelong member of Landis Valley Christian Fellowship, where he served many years as a cemetery sextant and church groundskeeper. Mr. Landis never worked off his 56-acre farm until he retired and had a lawn mowing service. He loved working outside, gardening, and having his family together. When he wasn’t working, he volunteered at the Material Resource Center into his 90s.

Dorothy survives, along with his five children, Carolyn Espenshade of Raleigh, NC, Jay (Sharon) Landis of Linville, VA, Ed (Cheryl) Landis of Scio, OR, Deb (Nelson) Herr of Mountain Top, PA and Kaye Martin of Belleville, PA, sisters Esther Landis, Anne Hummel; 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah and Katie Landis, his sister Mary Trees, son, John David Landis and great-grandson, Joshua Landis.

The memorial service will be held at Landis Valley Christian Fellowship, 2420 Kissel Hill Rd. Lancaster, PA on Saturday, August 3 at 10:30AM

Condolences to the Family

August 19, 2024

Hi Dorothy, I’m so sorry for your loss.  I was a neighbor of yours in Oregon (Susan Northup -mother, Ruth Northup).  After reading the obit, I put the dots together and found that Noah was Elvin’s father and Katie made the best angel food cakes.
