Elise Hager Calder, 92
Elise Hager Calder died on Sunday, November 11, 2007 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Lancaster, she was the eldest daughter of Frances H. Hager and the late Redmond C. Hager. A graduate of Penn Hall Preparatory School, she continued her education at Penn Hall Junior College with a degree in Art. She was employed on the children’s department at the Hager Store and then went on to marry and become a homemaker.
Elise served on the board at the Humane League of Lancaster County and answered the hotline for the Organization for the Responsible Care of Animals for many years. Hobbies included gourmet cooking, gardening, and photography. She wrote beautiful poetry and was an avid letter writer.
A devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, as well as a life-long animal advocate, her loss is deeply mourned.
Elise is survived by her mother, Frances Heckendorn Hager, 92, of Lancaster and by her sisters: Dr. Margaret Hager of Philadelphia and Dr. Katherine Plotnicov of Pittsburgh. She is also survived by her niece, Dr. Lara Addiego and by her nephews, Christian Hartleben and Alexei Plotnicov.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the memorial service at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George St., Millersville, PA on Saturday November 17th at 10:30AM. The family will receive guests from 10AM until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Lancaster County, 685 Good Dr., Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 or a charity of one’s choice.
