Elaine Louise Walsh, 75

August 17, 2025

Elaine Louise (Mowery) Walsh, 75, of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, surrounded by her family.

Born in Lancaster to the late Ervin and Jean Mowery, Elaine grew up on North Lime Street. She shared 58 years of marriage this past July 15th with the love of her life, James G. Walsh, Jr., and together they raised two daughters, Tracy Flaherty (Troy) and Erin Walsh (Brian Kane). Elaine took great joy in being “Grandma” to her four grandchildren—Andrew and Lauren Flaherty and Ella and Hazel Kane. Family was the center of her life, and she delighted in every moment spent with them, especially the sacred annual family beach vacations and holiday gatherings.

She had a lifelong career as an IT professional, working for Lancaster General Hospital, Alumax, Case New Holland, and Gross Investments, and was admired for her strong work ethic. Elaine was also an avid tennis player, competing in USTA and World Team Tennis nationals several times, treasuring the many friendships she built on the court. She also enjoyed her hobby of participating in dog shows, breeding and showing national champion Kerry Blue Terriers. She had a huge love for all animals, volunteering with a therapeutic horse-riding group and the Lancaster SPCA.

Elaine will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her kind, caring, and thoughtful spirit, and the many lives she touched. She is survived by her husband Jim, her daughters and their families, her cherished grandchildren and her brother Paul Mowery (Dawn).

There will be a gathering of friends and visitation with Elaine’s family on Thursday, August 21, 2025 from 10-11AM at the Charles F. Snyder Jr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org or PSPCA at pspca.org .

It was fun to reconnect with Jim a few years ago. He was my best friend in junior high and high school. We found that we both had a great fondness and friendship with our wives; beautiful families and the satisfaction that our parents would be proud of us. Now, that’s a great life. However, when unbearable sadness comes we have our families to help us and good memories are eternal. Maybe the words from one of our favorite songs of the 60’s by the Magnificient Men: “I know it’s just a matter of time/ I’m gonna find peace of mind” might not be entirely true… but good memories are eternal.    MIke Kaufhold

I’m so sorry to hear of Elaine’s passing. I so enjoyed playing tennis with her and you Jim! She was a formidable opponent and an even better partner. I knew her through tennis but after reading her obituary, I learned a lot of new things about her. What an accomplished woman!!

I’m so very sorry for your loss. I played tennis with Elaine, or rather across the court from her. We were never on the same team, unfortunately. She was lovely, and I hope she’s up in that big tennis court in the sky, arranging a game right now!! Sending you peace and comfort… Stephanie Zuckerman
