Edward W. Harding, 84

March 14, 2019

Edward Wayne Harding, 84, of Strasburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown. Born and raised in Berwick, PA, he was the son of the late Harold M. and Dorothy M. (Freeze) Harding. Edward was the loving husband of 62 years to the late Joyce G. Harding, who passed away on October 27, 2018.

Edward and Joyce met in 1940 on their first day of school at Fairview Avenue Elementary School in Berwick, PA. They spent the first six years together in the same homeroom. They began dating their sophomore year of high school and it lasted 68 more years. Joyce was an honor student in school, a caring homemaker who raised two boys, and a great caretaker of her husband through a number of serious illnesses.

Edward retired in 1994 after more than 35 years as a tool and die maker for the Lancaster division of RCA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, honorably discharged in 1956 after serving in Germany during the Korean War. Edward was a Freemason and proud member of the Charles M. Howell Lodge #496 in Millersville, PA. He was a clever handyman and perpetual inventor who dearly loved his wife and enjoyed spending time with his extended family.

Surviving Edward are his sons Tom B. Harding of Strasburg, PA and Tim B. Harding, husband of Christine, of Virginia Beach, VA, as well as two grandchildren, Preston and Victoria Harding. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Edward’s memory to Masonic Village, One Masonic Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family per Edward’s request.

Dear Harding family,
Please know we are thinking of you and sending our Love.
Words from an Unknown Author, that I felt should be shared and may be helpful at this time to all of you.
Although it’s difficult to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow.

Dear Tim, Tom and family,
Our deepest sympathy on the passing of your dad. It’s hard enough to lose one parent but to lose both in 5 months is even harder to bear.  We are praying for God’s comfort and grace to sustain all of you through this difficult time.
