Edward E. Byrnes Jr., 76
Edward E. Byrnes, Jr., 76, died Wednesday at Willow Valley Lakeside.
He was the wife of Mary E. Leinfelder Byrnes, with whom he was married for 52 years this past June 19th. Born in Marshalltown, Iowa, Edward was the son of the late Edward E., Sr., and Ruth M. Seidler Byrnes.
Working in the engineering and manufacturing management fields, he was Vice President of Operation for the Sheaffer-Eaton Co. of Pittsfield, Mass for 10 years, retiring in the mid 1990s. Prior to this, he worked for the Revlon Corp. and the Mennen Corp as VP of Operations. After retirement, he worked in Vermont as a consultant.
A veteran of the Korean War, Edward served in the US Army in the Chemical Corps as a corporal.
He was a 1953 graduate of the University of Iowa, earning a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering.
A talented trumpet player, Edward played with the Lancaster Senior Orchestra, the Providence (RI) Orchestra for Senior Cititzens, and the Woonsockett Band in Woonsockett, RI. He also enjoyed sailing, woodworking, and playing golf. He also had served as an Extraordinary Minister in the Catholic Church.
He attended St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 sons: Steven K. of Chalfont, PA; Eric J, married to Judy Byrnes of Basking Ridge, NJ; Frank E. of Pittsfield, MA; and Andrew C. married to Laurie Byrnes of Lanesboro, MA; 2 daughters: Janet A. married to Ralph Sinclair of Phoenix, AZ, and Nancy E. Byrnes of Madison, NJ; and 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Lammers of Davenport, Iowa.
Friends will be received on Saturday from 930-1030AM at St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603, with Mass to follow at 10:30AM. Interment in St. Joseph New Catholic Church.
