Edward A. Magalski, 79

Edward A. Magalski, 79, of Lancaster, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 16^th after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Diane, in 1964.

He is survived by his wife, Therese, of 52 years, three sons, Edward D., husband of Karen Magalski of Spring Grove, PA; Mark A., Lancaster; and Dr. Anthony E., husband of Dr. Kimberley Magalski of Neenah, WI; and three grandchildren, Michael and Lauren of Spring Grove, and Emily of Neenah, WI. Additionally, he is survived by two brothers, Dr. Joseph Magalski of Forest City, PA, and Frank Magalski of Jarrettsville, MD, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Magalski was a member of St. John Neumann Church where he served as Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and Acolyte. He also took Holy Communion to ill parishioners in their homes. In addition, he served as Extraordinary Minister at St. Joseph’s Chapel, Lancaster Regional Medical Center, where he also assisted in maintaining and decorating the Chapel.

A very active member of the Catholic Church all of his life, he served his church in many capacities. He taught CCD at St. Anne’s and in his Ohio parish. He was an Extraordinary Minister since the inception of the program. He was also a money counter at several parishes in addition to serving as chairman for many fundraisers for various parishes where he was a member. Mr. Magalski served on the Board of Directors for St. Anne’s Retirement Community in Columbia for 8 years. He was named chairman of the building committee, overseeing the construction of the 121 bed, skilled care unit as well as the renovations of the old building into personal care units and apartments.

Mr. Magalski became a member of the Knights of Columbus in 1963 and received his 4^th degree in 1964. He held several offices as a member, including Grand Knight in several councils and District Deputy for the Lancaster District for 4 years until 2002. He was also an active member of the St. John Neumann Council 12532 and 4^th degree Santa Maria Assembly 0915

Mr. Magalski was a graduate of the University of Detroit with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Wayne State University, Detroit, with an M.S. in Industrial Engineering. He was a registered professional engineer in New York and Pennsylvania. Mr. Magalski was head of Engineering at Weaver Poultry in New Holland for 11 years. He retired from Stouffer Foods in Solon, OH, where he was the manager of engineering for 10 years. In 1991 he took early retirement from Stouffer’s and returned to Lancaster.

After retiring, his hobbies included golf and woodworking, and over the course of several years, he completed many beautiful works of art. Many of his projects were for religious communities. He built an altar, credence table, ambry, and lectern for St. Anne’s Retirement Community, an ambry for St. Joseph’s Chapel at Lancaster Regional Medical Center, and was instrumental in making 9 new wooden beds for the Dominican Sisters of the Perpetual Rosary in Lancaster. He was also responsible for directing members of the Knights of Columbus in the remodeling and renovations of 60 bedrooms for the Adorers of the Blood Christ in Columbia. In addition, he designed and built computer desks and entertainment units for his sons, table and chair sets for his granddaughters and a sewing center and china closet for his wife. He always found time to help anyone who asked for his help.

Mr. Magalski was devoted to his God, his family, and his country. He was a member of the Armed Forces serving in the Army from 1954 to 1956.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 24, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 601 E. Delp Rd., Lancaster, PA with Rev. Michael J. Culkin as Celebrant. Friends will greet the family at St. John Neumann from 9:30a.m. until 10:30 a.m.. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 10:40 a.m., followed by Mass. Interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA at 2:00 p.m.

Prior to his illness, Ed began a special project for the Dominican Nuns. We would like to finish this project in Ed’s memory.
