Earl Richard Houghton, Jr., 78, of Columbia, formerly of Willow Street, Pa, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Earl Sr. and Violet Mae (Rankin) Houghton. He was married to Hedy E. (Axe) Houghton for 53 years prior to her passing in 2023.

Earl attended Penn Manor High School and shortly after served honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War, from 1969-1970. Earl drove truck for many years before starting his own lawn care service. In his free time, Earl enjoyed being in the outdoors, whether that be hunting, fishing, or spending time at his cabin in Perry County. He also had a passion for hot rods and frequented car shows. Earl was a member of Pequea BIC and most recently attended New Danville Mennonite Church. He was involved in multiple clubs and local organizations.

Earl is survived by 2 daughters: Richelle M. Boston (Travis) and Karen L. Karr (Thomas); 10 grandchildren, and 2 siblings: Bruce Houghton (Lorie) and Kay Yarnell (Ken). He was predeceased by his sister Brenda Reedy.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at 11 AM at New Danville Mennonite Church, 103 Marticville Rd, Lancaster, PA 17603. In honor of Earl, please feel free to drive your horse, tractor, or hot rod. The family will receive guests beginning at 10 AM. Interment will be private at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Flowers are accepted, or donations can be made in Earl’s name to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
