Douglas W. “Dougie” Klugh, 89
March 25, 2025
Douglas W. “Dougie” Klugh, 89, Lititz, passed away at home on March 25, right where he always wanted to be, by his wife’s side. Born March 30, 1935, in Lancaster, he was the son of Ruth Arlene Klugh Phillips. He was the loving and dedicated husband of 68 years to Arlene (Caulwell) Klugh.
Doug graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1953. He proudly served in the Air Force from 1954-1958. His love for aircraft was reflected in his many trips to air shows. It was during his time in the Air Force that he married Arlene, and they began their married life in New Jersey before moving to Lancaster, and then to Lititz.
After retiring as Branch Manager of Yesco in Lancaster, Doug continued working as a purchaser for Lapp Electric and then Haller Enterprises.
Sources of his enjoyment were playing and watching sports, rooting for Philadelphia sports teams (especially the Phillies), watching old western entertainment, and devouring food. That man could eat! He also spoiled many pets through the years as his love of animals was evident. He continues to help animals through the donation of his pacemaker to Pittsburgh Veterinary Cardiology to be placed in a dog.
Many will remember Doug’s profound sense of humor along with his infectious laugh. Although his light-hearted jokes were a key part of how he carried himself, his civility and kind demeanor were, by far, the most resounding attributes that people will remember. He was described by many as a really good guy.
“Till the end of time
Long as stars are in the blue
Long as there’s a spring, a bird to sing
I’ll go on loving you”
Doug is survived by his wife Arlene, son Brian Klugh (wife Nancy) and their two children Eileen and Logan, son Brad Klugh, and daughter Brenda Klugh-Buccilla and her two children Connor (fiancé Lauren) and Mason (wife Kristina). He is also survived by his brother-in-law Ronald Caulwell. He was preceded in death by his mother, brother Donald Klugh, and sister Corliss Kirsch.
The family would like to thank Hospice and Community Care for their expertise, compassion, and exceptional care for Doug during his final weeks. We would also like to thank Dr. David Somerman for always treating Doug with dignity and humor.
Public visitation will be held at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA on Friday, April 11, from 5-6 pm. A private funeral will be at a later date at the convenience of the family. Doug will be interred at Riverview Memorial Park with Veteran’s honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to a veteran, children, or animal charity of your choice.

Arlene,
Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Doug and you formed quite the team! I knew Dougie for over 30 years. What a kind, loving, funny, gentleman he was. He was a true Gentleman! One of a kind! We shared many laughs and solved many of the “worlds” problems! lol! He will be truly missed by many. His memory and legacy will last forever! I’m hoping you are doing well, under the circumstances. It has to be difficult for you. Although he is no longer with us, he will never leave you. He is still watching over you. Stay strong and stay healthy.
Regards,
John Plank

Dear Arlene
i was lucky enough to get to know you and Doug a few summers ago when I showed up to help you with your gardens. The love, humor, and joy between you two was infectious. I will certainly miss Doug’s laugh, cheers for Philly sports teams, and appetite for ice cream! Prayers for you Arlene as you navigate your new normal.

My condolences to the Klugh family for their loss of a great man. I had the pleasure of working with Doug whilst we were employed by Lapp. Later on, I still would call him for help when he was at Haller. It was always a pleasure to talk to him. He was a good and kind man.

I had the great privilege of working for Doug at Yesco many years ago. While there I learned of Doug’s appreciation for music. We had frequent discussions about the great crooners like Sinatra, Crosby, and Martin. Doug was always upbeat and a pleasure to work with. I was only employed there for a brief time, but I consider him the best boss I’ve ever had. Years later I had my own businesses. When dealing with my employees, I tried to model myself after Doug. This past year, and my children’s request, I’ve been writing my personal history for them. In the chapter about my work history over the past 60+ years, listing the bosses I’ve had, Doug is mentioned repeatedly. My sincere condolences to your family.
