Douglas H. Zima, 68

May 30, 2020

Douglas H. Zima passed suddenly on May 30, 2020 doing what he loved, caring for others as a paramedic. He was a loving father and husband, and a loyal friend. He will be missed by all of those whose life he touched in his 68 years.

Doug was a paramedic for 26 years, serving communities throughout Lancaster County. Doug taught for 16 years at Lancaster Catholic High School and continued to teach adult education as an EMT, CPR, and Medical Instructor until his passing.

He was a life long Boy Scout, having served in the Lancaster area since his youth and as the health officer at Camp Mack for several summers.

Doug led by example to always treat others with respect and kindness, living the ideals of the Masonic Order, of which he was a part of for the past 16 years. The world is a sadder place without him and his wisdom.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Tina Zima, and his daughter Allison, her husband Joel Noecker, extended family including siblings, a niece and two nephews, and the family he served with in EMS.

A Viewing will be held at Saturday, June 6, 2020 from 11:00am-1:30pm at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA 17543. Interment will follow at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 2nd Lock Rd., Lancaster, PA 17603. Doug will be receiving Line of Duty Honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the PA Dutch Council 524 at 630 Janet Ave., Suite B-114, Lancaster, PA 17601.

Condolences to the Family

Mr. Zima was my favorite teacher at LCHS. He is the reason I got into drafting/CAD and became a IA/ Tech Ed teacher. I will always remember his stories about “Fred”. I had the opportunity to email him and tell him how much he inspired me. 25 years later and 2 postgraduate degrees he is still one of my most influential teachers. His memory lives on in my classroom.

Tina and family:
So saddened to hear of Doug’s passing.  I was so glad to have gotten to see you the other month at LEMSA’s training night.  I will remember the old days of East Lampeter with Doug and my parents, and you at the old CHL.  Everyone will be in my prayers.  Sorry I couldn’t attend the services, I was working out in Blair Co. Ironically, about the same time that I was thinking of you and Doug, Bedford Co gave a last call for a fellow firefighter from Hyndman Pa

Dear Allison and Family,
Although I have not seen Doug in 40 years or so, I remember him fondly as a fellow Camp Mack Staff member and Order of the Arrow brother. We spent countless hours together doing what he dedicated his life to … serving others. He has, indeed, earned his eternal reward. May you all find peace in your loss.
Sincerely,
Dan Dillard

Dear Allison and Zima Family,
I worked with the “Captian” as he was affectionally known by those who loved him at Lancaster Catholic High. We taught right across the hall from each other. For years Doug would pick me up for school so my wife could take our car to work. Doug was always there for LCHS at all and any events. I especially remember his unique RUM BALL holiday treats when he came to my classroom door at Christmas time. Your family will be in my prayers each time I am asking God to give a special hug to those that have been a part of my life experience. God Bless

I have very fond graetful memories of all the MANY “projects” “Zima” (as my dad always lovingly liked to call him) helped me with at “Grandma’s” House over the years and the trips to help cousin Carolyn in NJ. Doug took me out for my first Driving lesson the very day I finally had my permit… Unbeknown to Doug, much to the displeasure of my Dad, who had already told me no, and to wait until the next day when He would take me… ooops! Always wanting to help and lend a hand, Doug came right over when I asked him to take me. He took me out in his 1966? I’m going to say? green VW bug. What a clutch to take your first lesson on!! He was a Good guy who always meant well and just wanted to help! “Good Morning!” and sleep well! Love you so Schweetie! Uncle Alan

It saddens me to learn of Doug’s passing. Although we lost touch over the years, I have great memories of our time, working together, at Camp Chiquetan and Camp Mack. We also had classes, together, at Millersville. Doug was always one of the good guys. Rest In Peace, Old Friend.
