Douglas H. Woolley, 84
June 10, 2015
Douglas “Doug” Woolley, of Lititz, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 10th, at 84 years of age. He is survived by two children: Nancy (Manny) Pearl of Cherry Hill, NJ and Dan (Sherry) Woolley of Lititz, PA, as well as seven grandchildren: Alex and Amy Pearl, and Andy, Steve, Jenny, Matt, and David Woolley. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy (2014), and his son Doug Jr.,“Dukie” (1967).
Born May 12, 1931, in Paterson, NJ, Doug moved his family to Lancaster County in 1971, and has resided in the area ever since. He and his wife were long-time members of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Prior to his long and successful career as a residential home builder, Doug was a 1949 Graduate of Central High School (Paterson, NJ), a 1953 Graduate of Lehigh University, and served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1955. He particularly enjoyed traveling with his wife, going to lunch with friends, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, and catching up with his childhood “street-corner gang.” He had a truly one-of-a-kind personality and was happy whenever he was with people or accomplishing a project. He will be missed by many.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 12, 2015 at Charles F. Snyder Jr. Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, PA, with Reverend Chris Labs officiating. You may visit the family one-hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Witness Park, Lititz.
Doug often gave financially to charity and, prior to his death, asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions to honor his memory instead be made to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125 and The Water Street Rescue Mission, 210 S. Prince St., Lancaster, PA 17603.

My mom, Evelyn Ott (Hamilton) remembers Doug when they were kids. They were cousins. His mom (Jennie) was sister to my grandfather. She remembers him with fondness, he made her tell him the name of all the cars! I wish i had the chance to meet him…May our Lord comfort you until we meet in the New Jerusalem, Joann Snowden (joannsnowden@gmail.com)

I’m so sorry about the loss of your dad, Dan and Nancy. I have such fond memories of his ready smile and the twinkle in his eye. He was also so full of life and enthusiasm. May God give you grace and peace as you mourn his home-going. Bill Wichterman (billwichterman@verizon.net)

Nancy and Dan – Sorry we could not make Dougs service, but we’ll sure miss our good friend and neighbor. My bio is very similar to your dad (he was 2 mo. younger!). He graduated from high school, college, navy active duty, and moved to Bloomindale in the same years as me. We enjoyed our relationship with your folks and you guys growing up with Laurie and Sherry. Doug was one of a kind (Navy; Mark 1, Mod 0 = the original). We’ll miss him. -Craig and Jean Stern

My family will miss Mr. Woolley. He was a very friendly and honest man. I remember the sparkle in his eye when he talked about his personal projects or hanging out with his street corner gang. He planned and built the homes near the pond on Rudy Dam Rd. They all exhibit a style and class that makes a great community. I am honored to be living in a house that he built. We planted a tree in honor of him. He will now be able to watch over and enjoy his 40 years of work in Kissel Hill.

Doug was like a second father. I will eternally remember his kind words, inspiration and generousity.

Knowing Doug for many years – coming into our restaurant for a “slice” and a chat – he always had a positive thought. We will miss him. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family.
Sincerely,

Doug was an amazing man. What a loss for humanity. He was an outstanding person who loved people and loved to chit chat. Our prayers and thoughts to his family for the loss of a great man. We never know why God calls us home but now he will make Heaven an enjoyable experience as he joins his wonderful wife for eternity.

Doug’s visits to Warwick Run Animal Clinic were always anticipated and thoroughly enjoyed. Whether a visit with one of his beloved dogs or just to “kibbitz”, his optimism and spirit always left everyone smiling and uplifted. Memories of his curbside visits at my home will always bring a fond chuckle.
