Donna R. Weidensaul

Donna Ruth Rowland Weidensaul was called home to be with our Lord and Savior in the evening of October 9, 2010. She had lived in the Luther Acres Healthcare Center in Lititz for over five years, where she received warm, loving care from the staff. The care and quality of life was immensely meaningful to her.

Born in Protection, Kansas to the late Lawrence Claude and Martha Leota Dougherty Rowland on April 14, 1934, Donna was the youngest of   ten children. She graduated from Protection High School and attended Fort Hays State College in Kansas. She was fully devoted to her husband, children, and those who had been a part of her life. She held several positions in sales and customer service and volunteered in many capacities for organizations in Lancaster.

Her interests included family, reading, golfing, walking and collecting antiques. She loved to tell people stories about her family, especially about her grandchildren. Donna had a welcoming smile for everyone and she seldom forgot names of people she met.

Donna is survived by her husband, James David Weidensaul, with whom she would have shared fifty-three years of marriage on October 26, 2010. Wanting to be close to her, he lives in a cottage at the Luthercare Community.

Donna leaves three children: James Carroll Weidensaul and his wife Laura of Lancaster, Mary Kathryn Barge and her husband Bart of Bedford, Wyoming, and   Margaret Anne Smith and her husband James of Lititz.

Donna has six grandchildren that she loved dearly, Douglas James, David Swift and Daniel Rowland Weidensaul and Mary Kathryn, Jon-Paul Lewis, and Gloria Ruth Smith. She was very mindful and supportive of their many talents.

She is also survived by four siblings: Victor Rowland, Barbara Sangster and Kathryn Hoover, all of Pratt, Kansas and J.D. Rowland of Rogers, Arkansas.

Donna was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

There will be a Memorial Celebration of her life at the Luther Acres Healthcare Chapel, Lititz, PA on Saturday, October 23, 2010 at 2:00PM with Rev. Timothy Mentzer of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating.

A memorial fund in memory of Donna’s life, particularly at Luthercare is being dedicated and administered by Caring funds at 600 E. Main Street, Lititz, Pa 1754. Arrangements are by the Charles F. Steve and Roxanne Fehlauer and family.

You may not remember me.  I am Ross Morrison, (Mr. Morrison) I taught 7th grade and coached the Eudora Grade School kids from 1947 to 49.  I have lived in Lancaster since 1964.  I was a colleague of  your mother. She sang at the funeral of my first wife in 1948.  When I saw your name in the paper I immediately remember your family from Eudora.   If at some time in the future you would like to contact me I would appreciate it.  My phone no. is 392-0560.  I do want to express my sympathy with you in your great loss.

Pat and I send sincere sympathy to you Jim and your family. We remember many good times we had at your home in Lancaster. We cherish our memories of Donna.

love

Donna babysat my sister and me in Protection, KS, when their family lived 2 doors from ours.  My parents were Milo and Mid Edmonston, and my mom loved Donna.  She was happy and kind…even to a naughty kid like me.  I loved her red hair and freckles and thought she was magic.  From her obituary in THE PROTECTION PRESS, she was a special person throughout her life.  I’m sure she will be sorely missed, and I will always remember her.
