Donald N. Walter, 78

Donald N. Walter, 78, of 950 Willow Valley Lakes Drive, Lancaster, died December 25, 2009, at The Glen at Willow Valley. Born in Montour County, he was the son of the late Willard E. and Susan (Bennage) Walter.He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lorraine M. (Bolinder) Walter.

Don graduated from Susquehanna University in 1953, after playing football under Amos Alonzo Stagg. He entered the Navy and served as CIC officer aboard the USS Worchester CL-144 from 1953 to 1956. After the Navy, Don taught physics at Bucknell University and earned an MS in 1958. He left Bucknell and worked for 30 years for Bell Telephone in various engineering groups, including the Bell Telephone Laboratories in Murray Hill, New Jersey, retiring in 1988.

His interests included golf, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and spending time at his winter home in Sun Lakes, Arizona. He was a member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lancaster.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: USMC Lt. Col.-Retired Donald A. married to Traci Fromm of Bishop, Georgia; Douglas, esq., partner of Edwin Raynor of Drexel Hill, PA; a daughter, Michele, married to Farley Fry, of Reinholds, PA; and five grandchildren, Jacob, Kathryn, Elizabeth, Henry, and Christoph. He is predeceased by a daughter Kathleen, who died in infancy.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 930-10AM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King St., Lancaster, PA with the funeral service to follow at 10AM. Private interment services will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
