Donald L. Denlinger, 80
December 16, 2023
Donald L. Denlinger, aged 80, of Lancaster, PA, passed away at home on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Gladys (Zimmerman) and Harry S. Denlinger. Donald was the beloved husband of Cynthia (Shelly) Denlinger, and they shared over 56 years of marriage together.
Donald dedicated his professional life to the art of commercial printing, working in both the web press and sheetfed departments at Intelligencer Printing Company for 46 years. He took great pride in his work and dedication to both coworkers and clients leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with. He was a member of the Susquehanna Litho Club.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Donald had a range of hobbies that enriched his life. He enjoyed woodworking, for both family members and nonprofit fundraisers that reflected not only his skill for the craft but his love for others. His green thumb extended to both flower and vegetable gardening, creating vibrant and fruitful spaces that brought beauty to his home.
Donald reinvigorated his childhood fascination with model train layouts in his retirement. He was an avid reader with a particular passion for crime fiction. He enjoyed watching the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Football Team allowing his enthusiasm to spill to his children’s and grandchildren’s team sports too.
Donald enjoyed music throughout his life playing trumpet and tuba at Penn Manor High School and fostering that love in his son and grandchildren. He was at every concert, football game and marching band showcase.
Donald was not only passionate about his interests but also committed to making a positive impact in the community, always quick to support any kid’s fundraiser. He organized his own, Relay for Life – Team “Gladys’s Group,” showcasing his caring and generous spirit and fighting against a disease that ravaged his family.
Donald is survived by his loving wife, Cynthia, his children, C. Michael Denlinger of Lancaster, and Karen Arnold, wife of Frederick R., of Lancaster. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Kathryn and Frederick L. Arnold, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by Mr. Bingley, a beloved dog. Donald was preceded in death by his sister, Kathy Monical.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1818 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19103 or Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17601.
A Celebration of Life to honor Donald’s memory will be held at a later date, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together and share in the cherished memories of a life well-lived.
