Donald J. Mangold, 77

Donald J. Mangold, 77, of Lancaster, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, July 31, 2017 after a year’s battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cresson, PA, he was the son of the late Roy A. Mangold and Gertrude (Boland) Horner. He was the loving husband to Clara E.(Laventure) for 56 years.

Donald retired from PPL after 33 years of service. He was a 3rd degree knight of the Knights of Columbus. Donald graduated in 1960 from the electrical program at Thaddeus Stevens Trade and later went on to play semi-pro football for the Columbia Raiders for 2 years. In 2016, he was inducted to the Athletic Hall of Fame at Stevens trade for lettering in football and track. Donald was known as “Crazy Legs Mangold”.
In his later years, Donald and Clara enjoyed a couples’ bowling league in Rocky Springs and traveling throughout the world.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 4 children: Patricia Turner (Steven) of Lancaster; Paul Mangold (Rebecca) of Lancaster; Doris Cooper (James) of Conestoga; and Cindy Parmer (Randy) of Millersville; 8 grandchildren: Charles, Christopher, Dan, Katie, Stephanie, Mark, Donald and Nina; 1 brother, Leo (Jan) of Millsboro, DE; and 4 sisters: Marty Artherholt of Columbia; June Miller of Washington, PA; Pauline Touchberry (Thomas) of Cataula, GA and Mary Jane of Texas. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: Ira, Roy, David and Gerald; his sisters: Jane. Florence and Geraldine and also a granddaughter, Jennifer.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, August 5, 2017 at St. Philips Catholic Church, 2111 Millersville Pike, Lancaster, PA 17603 followed by burial at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery. Friends and family will be received on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 6-8PM at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 441 N. George St. Millersville, PA 17551.

So sorry to read of Don’s passing. My wife and I offer our sincere condolences to the entire Mangold family at this sad time. I have many fond memories of Don, as a coworker at PP&L. He was always reliable and honest to a fault. He loved and was very proud of his family. Don also had a good sense of humor and always liked a good laugh.
He will truly be missed.

You and Don were/are such a great couple.  I remember when we used to walk from our jobs at St. Joe Hospital to meet him at the Candy Corner ? (corner of Duke and Chestnut) for a coke.  Those were the days.  Then Don and Linn worked at PP&L for a long time.  They are waiting for us in a better place.
