Donald H. Stauffer, 83

December 22, 2017

Donald H. Stauffer of Lititz passed away after a brief illness on Friday December 22nd at the age of 83. Born at home in Lancaster in 1934, he was the son of the late Walter W. and Ellida H. Stauffer. He was predeceased by his brothers Glenn H. and Ray H. Stauffer and his sister Nila Weaver. He is survived by his wife Gayle Topping Stauffer, son David husband to Cynthia Stauffer, daughter Laura wife of Thong Sisay and grandson Nico Sisay.

He graduated from Manheim Township High School in 1952 and West Chester State Teachers College, in 1956. He was drafted into the US Army and was stationed in Germany as a cartographer. He was discharged from the Army reserves in 1963. He married his wife Gayle in June of 1963 at Saint Andrews U.C.C. in Lancaster. His first teaching assignment was at Kennett Square, PA where he taught Junior High social studies; he retired from teaching social studies at Conestoga Valley High School in 1993.

Don was very involved with his church congregation at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lititz. He enjoyed music, was a pianist, played in the church’s Jubilate Bell choir and sang with the senior choir. He was a skilled woodworker and gave much of his work to friends and family as gifts or donated them to charity. He was also an avid train enthusiast who built model railroads in his spare time.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 28 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Lutheran Church, 200 West Orange Street, Lititz. Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Don’s name may be made to Power Packs Project of Lancaster County or to ELCA Good Gifts.

Dear Stauffer Family,
We were saddened and surprised to learn of Don’s passing.  Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences are with you during this difficult time.  We fondly recall our Stauffer family reunion this summer which gave us the opportunity to reconnect with our extended relatives.  May God’s grace and peace surround you and strengthen you in the coming days, and may fond memories of your husband and father keep his life near and dear to your hearts.
Cousin Bruce and Susan Stauffer.

Dear Mrs. Stauffer
Please accept my sincerest condolences at the passing of your husband.  I am a 1973 graduate from CV and although I never had your husband as a teacher, I remember fondly visits to your home with Scott Lefever to work on Don’s model railroad and run the trains.  You are in my thoughts and prayers.
