Dolores C. Greenawalt, 85

July 12, 2022

Dolores Cora Greenawalt, 85, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Cora Milke. She was the beloved wife to her late husband G. David Greenawalt, who passed in 2009. Dolores loved her family, going for walks, and playing the violin. She also enjoyed working with her hands, knitting, crocheting and sewing. When she was young Dolores took art lessons from the Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia and loved to paint portraits and landscapes in oil. Dolores loved the Lord and for many years was active at St John’s Lutheran Church and Seventh Presbyterian Church teaching Sunday School and serving in various positions.

Dolores dedicated 20 years to Philadelphia Electric as their secretary. She then went to beauty school and spent another 20 years as a cosmetologist in downtown Philadelphia where she would tend to the nail care of the city’s lawyers and judges.

She was a well-rounded traveler, spending time in places as far away as the Bahamas. When she was not traveling far, she could be found out and about throughout the city. Dolores also spent a few years with the Women’s Voting League as a secretary. She is fondly remembered by her family as a kind person who valued her privacy and stood by her decisions.

Dolores is survived by her daughter Holly Forrest (Thomas), and son Mark Greenawalt (Liz); her brother Walter (Jayne); 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

To honor Dolores, services will remain private. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New Hope Community Closet, 128 Townsedge Dr, Quarryville, PA 17566; or Martic Food Pantry, 561 Martic Heights Dr, Holtwood, PA 17532.
