David Arthur “Dave” Schaeffer, 80

David A. “Dave” Schaeffer, 80, of Mountville, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2025. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Arthur Eugene and Naomi (Landis) Schaeffer. He was married to Diane L. (Bachman) Schaeffer 43 beautiful years.
Dave attended J. P. McCaskey High School and Stevens Trade School. He also served in the US Marine Corps during Vietnam and was proud of his honorable service. Dave worked for the School District of Lancaster (SDOL) for 25 years, retiring as the maintenance supervisor. He was the founder of the AA meeting at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manheim 53 years ago. That meeting is still going strong. He also was the founder of the AA meeting at the St Paul’s United Methodist Church in Mountville. He was very active working with those in recovery. His last meetings he attended was Celebrate Recovery at Manheim BIC and Discovery Recovery at Grace Baptist Church in Lancaster. His example provided hope, encouragement and a real-life example that continuous sobriety is achievable. Dave was known for his infectious smile, love of coffee and good food, and passion for people. He was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, enjoyed riding his Harley, and spent many days in the mountains in his cabin in Juniata County.
In addition to Diane, Dave is survived by 5 children: Nadine Melahn (William), Cortney Schaeffer, Marlane Hall (Ritchie), Thomas Schaeffer (Nancy), and Rebecca Chillas (Kurt); 11 grandchildren: Annissa, Jerred, Catherine, Wesley, Molly, Peter, Mary, James, Chase, Wyatt, and Nathan; 4 great-grandchildren, and 4 sisters: Mabel Waldorf, Millie Mummau, Margaret Ritter, and Betty Styer. He was predeceased by his sister Janet Schaeffer.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11 AM at Manheim BIC, 54 N Penryn Rd, Manheim, PA 17545. There will be a time of food, fellowship, and visitation immediately following the service. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Dave’s name to Dayspring Christian Academy, 120 College Ave, Mountville, PA 17554.
