Dale W. Smith, 78, of Quarryville, PA passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community.

Born in Lampeter, PA, he was the son of the late Maris W. and Igerna M. (Hershey) Smith. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois J. (Newswanger) Smith, who passed away in June of 2025.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Dale honorably served his country stationed in Heidelberg, Germany from 1965–1968.

He was a member of Chestnut Hill Church, formerly known as First Church of God in Lancaster. Prior to retirement, Dale worked as a forklift operator for Exide Corporation for 31 years.

Dale found great joy in the outdoors and simple pleasures of life. He spent most of his youth helping on the family farms and became an avid gardener and would often be seen riding his Farmall tractors that he was very proud of. He also grew produce specifically to donate to the Council of Churches Food Bank in downtown Lancaster for many years. He enjoyed many hobbies including playing card games, shooting pool, bowling, woodworking, hunting, fishing, boating, and spending time with family and friends at his cabin in Perry County. After retirement, Dale loved traveling

to local engine/car shows and taking road trips with his wife. He also found great joy and appreciation in driving for the Amish. He was an excellent cook and was well known for his holiday meals and family favorites—Thanksgiving dinner, chicken corn soup, chicken pot pie, apple and peach dumplings in the fall, wintertime donuts, and his traditional New Year’s pork and homemade sauerkraut.

He was known for being fun loving, a little set in his ways, but always willing to lend a hand and care for others above all else.

He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Laura M. Strausner, wife of Andrew, of Willow Street, and Connie L. Feeser, wife of David, of Lancaster; and three grandchildren, Madison, Lisa, and McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his sister, Janet L. Smith.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025, at Charles F. Snyder III Funeral Home & Crematory, 2421 Willow Street Pike, Willow Street, PA 17584. Family and friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of service. Inurnment will be private in Willow Street Mennonite Cemetery.
