Dale Thomas Landis, 70

March 08, 2016

Dale Thomas Landis, 70 years young, of Lititz, passed on suddenly and peacefully on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at home. Born in Chester County, he was the son of Henry and Marian Landis of Cedar Lawn Farm, the youngest of 5 children.

He is the husband of Barbara Forrester Landis, and the beloved father of two sons, Shawn and his wife Suzanne and Chad and his partner, Nuri. Also the very proud grandfather of Cate and Erin who call him “PapaDale”.
He was the youngest of 5 siblings, Marian Worst Cabbott and Donald Landis – both deceased; Pat Smith, Texas and Dick Landis, Narvon, Pa.

He graduated with his Bachelor’s Degree from the Food Science Department at Penn State, University Park, and spent a year in grad school at N.C. State prior to entrance into the U.S. Air Force for Officer’s Candidate School and Pilot Training. Later he was stationed in Mather Air Force Base in California where he trained navigators.
After a couple years he transferred and flew with the 193rd Special Operations Wing of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard in Harrisburg for 23 years, retiring due to medical reasons as a Lt. Col. He always maintained a tight friendship bond with his fellow pilots.

He was a Sr. Vice President of Sales for Giorgio Foods, Inc. Temple, PA for over 37 years and most proud to assist the military community.

He loved gardening, bicycling and soccer. He loved to make apple butter and sauerkraut and experiment with sourdough. His heart and smiles burst at any sight of the Blue & White. An avid PSU football and wrestling fan, he and Barbara traveled for many years to the football games in Beaver Stadium and the wrestling matches at Rec Hall. He was also a Lifetime Member of the PSU Rugby Club for which he played and remained active with this sacred brotherhood.

Ask him his greatest accomplishments and it would be his sons, Shawn and Chad.

A Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, March 19th, at 11:00 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 321 West Chestnut Street, Lancaster, PA 17603 with The Rev. John W. Morris officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11AM prior to the service. Military Honors will be rendered at the church. A reception will follow in the Parish social hall.

Condolences to the Family

March 23, 2016

Dear Barbara,
Though I met Dale through business many years ago, we became very close friends. When he came to Michigan on business, a majority of our time was spent talking about our families, and our personal interests. He loved talking about you Shawn, Chad, and your grandchildren.
I learned so much from him, he made a huge difference in my life, and I will miss him.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family.

Dear Landis Family –
I am so very sorry to hear of Dale’s passing this past week. I met Dale through business dealings with Giorgio Foods. I so enjoyed him, his stories, we talked gardening and of coarse weather, PA vs. CA. I just spent some time with him on 4 Feb 16, it was wonderful to see him. I will miss him.

To Dale’s family:
I had the honor of serving with Dale in the 193rd Special Operations Group.  He exemplified the profession of arms as few did; he was courageous, skilled and dedicated.  His loyalty to family, friends and America was a credit to himself and the nation he loved so dearly.
Please accept my sincere condolences on his passing.  The world is poorer without him.
With deepest sympathy,
Phil Friday

Dear Mrs Landis and Family,
While only knowing Dale for the past year and a half, it has been a pleasure working with him. Our company has been working with him to develop sales and our team has worked side by side with him.  We have found him to be a consumate professional with a lot of wisdom both in business and life.  We are sorry our relationship with Dale was so short but we are blessed to have had the opportunity to know and work with him.
Our deepest sympathy to you and your sons.

Barbara and family,
Our sincere condolences to you and the family.  I worked with Dale for almost 30 years and considered him a good friend.  Enjoyed the times skiing out west in Colorado and Utah (many, many years ago).  He was a great organier and the master chef cooking the turkey and ham for lunch during the ski trips.   He loved his family and often would talk about how the boys were doing.  I talked to to him many times about his days as a pilot and his rugby matches.  He was an important part of the success of Giorgi Foods and will be missed by all.  Our prayers are with you and the family at this sad time.

My sincere condolences to the Landis family.  Dale was one of the “good guys” that I had the pleasure to know and work with over the past 25+ years.  I first met Dale in Germany, when as a client for the Giorgio company, he came to visit and work with me and my team.  We quickly developed a friendship!   I had so much respect for Dale, particularly for his extreme kindness, professionalism, and in the manner he treated his fellow man.   On behalf of my company, my colleagues, and my family,  our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.   RIP my good friend, you’ll be missed!   –   Ken Cass, Overseas Service Corporation.

Barbara,
I will always remember and appreciate the kindness and consideration that you and Dale showed me following my mishap “down-under” a few years ago.  Dale was one of the great ones, without whom a whole generation of aging ruggers would not exist.

Dale was a really good man and I know he will be missed by so many whose lives he touched over the years. I knew Dale through work selling food to the military and attending many food shows over the years together around the world.

Dale Landis was a prince of a man! I worked as an account executive on the Giorgio brand in Northern California for over 20 years! He was a man dedicated to Giorgio Foods but most of all loved his outside interests including family, friends, rugby, football, and his boys! A quiet man with a real sense of humor! I have many fond members of our time together. He was a soft sell and loved by all. A quiet man with a great “chukle”. I will miss him but he made a lasting imprint on my soul. May God Bless his Family and Friends! Rest in Peace! Sincerely, Clyde LeBaron (San Francisco)

We will all miss him terribly here at Giorgio.  He was always a bright spot in our office.  i was lucky enough to be in his email chain and i always looked forward to his political jokes and jabs.  The election won’t be the same without him.  Such a truly good guy.

Dear Barbara:
The news of Dale’s passing obviously came as a surprise to me. Very sad news indeed. My sincerest and deepest feelings of sympathy to you and your family.
I enjoyed being one of Dale’s rugby buddies at Penn State in the 1960s, and I have always respected him for his commitment and loyalty to Penn State Rugby. The Golden Oldies Rugby Tournaments with Dale and other Penn State Rugby alums were always very special. So many wonderful memories. Dale loved the game of rugby, and he thoroughly enjoyed the cameraderie of teammates and opponents – for which rugby is so well known.
Dale was a true friend. I am going to miss seeing him on campus for our rugby and other events.
God bless you and your family.
