Christine Hagans, 73

June 12, 2021

Christine Hagans (Tina), 73, passed away at Hospice & Community Care on Saturday, June 12, 2021. She was born in Washington, D.C. to John William and Mary (Sheaffer) Hagans.

A graduate of Lampeter Strasburg High School, Class of 1966, Tina completed her degree in business school and received a position as an administrative assistant for Elgood-Mayo Corp. She worked there for 35 years before she retired.

Tina was an active member of the Heritage Society of Strasburg, a board member of the Rockford Foundation and remained a very active member of the Class of ’66 Reunion Committee. Her friendships from high school were very important to her and she looked forward to lunches and dinners throughout the year with them. Tina was also an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepard and was very strong in her faith.

Those who knew Tina, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. Her generosity and adoration for family and friends made her beloved by everyone. Tina’s laugh was a source of happiness and sunshine for all those who enjoyed her company.

Tina found great pleasure in gardening. She frequently visited Longwood Gardens to learn as much as possible, and earned the title of Master Gardener. She would incorporate her knowledge in her own flower garden at her home on Windy Hill Road where she lived for over 30 years. She filled her life with reading, cooking, traveling, laughter, music and dancing. Tina was the oldest sister to Becky and Kate, and they would spend many holidays, birthdays and dinner parties, dancing to Frank Sinatra and big band music, drinking Old Fashioneds, singing along with family and friends. Tina loved to travel and she would visit friends all over the US, Europe and Asia. Although she always lived life to the fullest, she invariably put family first. She loved her family and was the most devoted daughter, sister, aunt and godmother.

Surviving Tina are her mother, Mary Hagans; her sisters, Rebecca Simeral, wife of Mark of Lititz and Kathleen Rothfus of Lancaster; her cousin, Jessica Sodergren, wife of Bob of San Clemente, CA; her niece Molly Simeral Reynolds, wife of Chase of Lititz; her nephew Justin Lyons of Lancaster; her great nieces and nephews, Scotland Reynolds, John Reynolds (Jack), Wyatte Lyons and Knox Lyons.

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Please omit flowers, and kindly consider a memorial contribution to be made to Hospice & Community Care, 685 Good Drive, Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.

It is with great sadness that read that Tina had passed. I was lucky to find Tina back in the 80’s when I stopped into Elgood Mayo on a business cold call. Beautiful, bright and charming was how I would describe Tina  and whenever I stopped by on business she was so fun to talk with and I hated to leave. As the paper said “those who knew Tina, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives” how true that is. My prayers and condolences go out to Tina’s family.

My heart is broken.  Tina was a long time friend from the class of 66.  We double dated to our senior prom and through the years would go out to dinner and catch up between reunions.  Her talents were numberous, gardening, flower arrangng, and decorating were only a few.  We all benifited from knowing Tina and she will be greatly missed.

Tina was my oldest first cousin. All four of us felt like sisters. Spent every weekend together as well as summers. We taught each other to dance from Bandstand and all that big band music. She taught my Joe how to swing dance!! I hope you are dancing in heaven. My heart is broken but but I bet you have that place rockin’! All my love! Jess

Dear Mary, Becky, Kate and family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you at Tina’s passing.  It was quite a shock when I talked to her in November and she told me of her illness.  We talked for awhile, and one thing we talked about was the friendship that our families shared throughout the years.  Her two photos are beautiful, and so is her write-up.  And yes, that laught was a source of happiness.  Will continue to pray for healing, comfort and peace for all of you.

Dear Becky and Kate,
My deepest sympathy to you and family on the passing of Tina. We were friends since kindergarten. Even though we may not have been in touch repeatedly over the years, we always picked up where we left off. And in most recent years we always had laughs and good times together, especially when she helped out at the Holiday Home Tour. Our last recent phone calls were very special to me.
When a sister dies, a part of you dies as well.
My forever fondness to you and family
Love, Sally

I’m so sorry to hear that Tina passed away.  I worked with Tina for several years at Elgood-Mayo and consdered her a good friend.  While we lost touch over the years, I would think of her often and all the good times we had together. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this time of loss.

Blessings to Tina’s family as they grieve her loss from their lives.  I know that our 50 year friendship was a blessing for both of us even though we were separated by thousands of miles. Every phone call erased those miles as we shared life’s challenges and joys. People were attracted to Tina for her keen intelligence, interesting conversation and entertaining sense of humor. Her radiant smile and throaty laugh would light up the room. New friends are a gift, but old friends can never be replaced.

So many great times and memories with Tina while at St Matthew.  What a blessing she was sharing her humor.  Laughing together was a joy.  All who die in the Lord will also be raised to new life in Christ.  +Pastor Bettger
