Charles “Chuck” Oettel, Sr., 84

Charles “Chuck” Oettel, Sr., 84, of Lancaster, entered into heaven to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, April 14, 2019. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Lillian Mae (Rice) and Ernest L. Oettel. He was the loving husband to Patricia Anne (Curry), with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.

Chuck retired from Armstrong in 1979 after 45 years, where he was known as “Preacher Man”. Growing up, Chuck spent much of his time, mentoring the neighborhood children, where he earned the nickname, “Big O”. He was a member of Grace Brethren Church of Lancaster. Chuck enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a talented photographer. Most of all Chuck cherished spending time with his family, especially at Pinegrove, his family’s legacy.

In addition to his wife, Patricia, Chuck is survived by his children: Charles, Oettel, Jr. of Lancaster, Lorene M. Staffieri (Louis) of Conestoga and Dianna L. Lowe (Donald) of Washington Boro; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and 2 siblings: Robert Oettel and Anne Martin.
He was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Debbie A. Oettel 1 brother and 3 sisters.

A Celebration of Chuck’s life will be celebrated at 11AM on Friday, April 19, 2019 at the Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home, 414 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA 17602, with Pastor John Smith officiating. Friends and family will be received from 10AM-11AM prior to the service. Interment will be private at Conestoga Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Chuck’s memory may be offered to the Salvation Army, 131 S Queen St, Lancaster, PA 17603.
