Charles B. Shultz III, 90
September 24, 2025
Charles B. Shultz III, 90, of Landisville, passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at UPMC Lititz.
Charles was born in Lancaster, son of the late Charles B. Shultz Jr. and Elizabeth (Doersom) Shultz. He graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1953.
Charles met his wife, Barbara Devine, while ice skating at Long’s Park on January 10, 1962. Charlie was encouraged by his friend Don, who worked for LNP, to go skating on a very cold day to capture some photos for the newspaper, and Barbara went skating with a group of her girlfriends to try the new skates she received for Christmas. It was total serendipity on the ice for Charlie and Barbara. Charlie proposed to Barbara while sitting at the kitchen table with her parents present on June 10, 1962. They were married at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Columbia on August 18, 1962, and shared over 61 wonderful years together until Barbara’s passing in March of 2024.
Deeply rooted in his Catholic faith, Charles worshiped with Barbara at St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Church in Lancaster. He volunteered with the Brown Bag Lunch program and on the funeral committee.
Charles proudly served in the United States Navy and was a member of the Red Rose Veterans Honor Guard and the Navy Club USA, Lancaster Ship No. 166.
He worked as a delivery driver for various companies and retired from Gerhart Coffee Company.
Charles is survived by his sons, Robert M. Shultz (Lynda D’Orazio), of Nampa, ID, and Timothy C. Shultz of Murrells Inlet, SC; daughter, Stephanie A. Gingrich (Chris) of Lititz; four grandchildren, Benjamin (Madison), Carolyn (Brandan), Bryce, and Cathryn; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Delaney. In addition to Barbara, he is predeceased by his siblings, Patricia Watkinson, Thomas Shultz, and David Shultz.
A visitation will take place from 10:00 to 11:00 am, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am with The Rev. Tri M. Luong as Celebrant, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Church. Interment will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
Please omit flowers and kindly consider a contribution in Charles’s memory to St. Anne and Our Lady of La Vang Church (memo: Brown Bag Lunch), 929 N. Duke St, Lancaster, PA 17602.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Oak Leaf Manor North and UPMC Lititz for their gentle and compassionate care of Charles.
