My name is Lynne Aronov Hydinger and I live in Colorado. Just by accident, I found this obituary on FB. Charlene and I go way back, high school, where we met and became fast friends. I knew her parents, sister and brother. Char and I went through some very sad times but we’re there for one another. We went to NY to see the World’s Fair and Sammy Davis Jr. My very first time on an airplane and long distance trip. I will not go into details but although we had a great time, we didn’t get to see Sammy Davis Jr, long story. We walked around the fair, had an issue happen while eating at a little cafe, got to see Buddy Rich play drums, accidentally. We stayed in a very stoic hotel, there was a shortage of water, a taxi cab strike but we did it. There is a story around the cafe we went into but again a long story. We have stayed in touch over the years, not as much as I would have liked but we did connect on FB. There is a photo not too far from the end that shows me, my ex husband and Charlene, sitting on mine and my husband’s couch. So Charlene must have been there to visit or we were going somewhere, I think to her brothers house. I adored Charlene, looked up to her, admired her, and missed her later in life. So glad she found happiness though. I know she loved Chuck and her children and grandchildren. I also knew she missed Doreen. She gave so much of herself to everyone. I always said that’s why she was so thin. One other memory. We went downtown Chicago somewhere to a French restaurant. I think we both had duck in orange sauce. She had eaten that before. Me, with my sensitive stomach, got sick later, Charlene did not. We did eventually laugh about it. My condolences and sympathy to Chuck and their family, and to all who knew and loved her. God Bless Charlene and Rest in Peace. Love you old friend. Lynne Aronov Hydinger

Charlene was a beautiful, highly intelligent, enormously caring and sensitive woman. Her loss is great for Chuck and her entire family. Kay and I as Canadians were beneficiaries of her acute explanations of events in US. We delighted in our skiing trip to Las Lenas Argentina with her, Chuck and Lance. She will forever remain in our hearts. Kay and Bill Rosenfeld

Charlene was a class act and a dear friend.  My favorite memories of Charlene were during our jaunts to NYC for Vogue Knitting Live and our yearly knitting retreats.  When taking on a challenging knitting project and a new knitting technique, Charlene’s favorite word was “fidly”.  After mastering the techniques and finishing the project, she would say, “That was fidly but so worth it”  Rest in peach my dear friend.

Dear Chuck and Family,
Our hearts our breaking for you.  Such a terrible, shocking and unexpected loss.  Life with out Charlene must be unimaginal for you.  It is for us as well.  Charlene was a dear, sweet and loyal friend.  She brightened our lives every time we got together.  We looked forward to her summer visits to Madison.  When we met, our conversations always began with the latest news about our children and grandchildren.  There was no subject more important to Charlene.  She loved her family devotedly and deeply.  We are filled with sadness that her beautiful, supportive and gentle  presence will be lost to you. We know that her memory will console and guide you through the coming years.  She is still with us because her love is in our hearts.  May God bring you comfort and bless you all.  We send our love and deepest sympathy.   Dainne and Bob Gomez

Hi, very sorry to read about Charlene’s passing. She was someone who really impressed me when I first started as a staff artist at the Sunday News back in the mid 90s. I could always resource her advice and information on a variety of learned topics. A quality and classy individual who also loved tennis like I do. Blessings to all of her relatives and friends during this difficult time and temporary separation.  Todd Spidle

I served with Charlene at CONTACT Lancaster Helpline for several years.  Her caring and compassion were legendary at CONTACT.  I am sure many of the CONTACT callers would remember her fondly as do her fellow volunteers.

Fran and I were very saddened to learn of Charlene’s death. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Chuck and the entire family for their loss. In both personal and professional settings Charlene was always intelligent, charming and caring. Most of our interactions with Charlene came as she worked as a valued member of the Intelligencer Journal staff, primarily in the Lifestyle department. She was a gifted writer and sharp editor. But perhaps most importanly she brought calmness and class to a newsroom that occasionally (maybe a bit more than occasionally) could have used more of both. Unfortunately, Fran and I will be unable to attend Charlene’s memorial service. But our thoughts will be wih the family in this difficult time.

Charlene and I worked for rival newspapers back in the day, but we became friends over our mutual love of movies. That friendship deepened through the years. I had wonderful dinners with her, some at restaurants and the best at her home.
We spent long hours talking about the state of the world, movies we had seen together and what was going on in our lives.
I admired Charlene so much. She was elegant and warm and funny. And in the 1960s, she worked for civil rights in the south and got arrested for protesting! You go girl! I will miss her. As is true of all great friends, my life won’t be the same without her.
Love to her family. My thoughts are with you.

We will always remember Charlene welcoming us as nextdoor neighbors with a delicious homemade meal.  Our friendship grew so deep over the years as we shared so many important and insignificant moments together. Our families became so close. She was a classy, smart, caring, dependable human being who made a difference in our lives and the lives of all who knew her!  Surrounding her beloved family in love!
