Catherine “Cathy” B. Deebel, 75

June 15, 2022

Catherine “Cathy” B. Deebel, 75 of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 15, 2022. Born in Williamsport, PA, she was the daughter of the late Charles and L. Christine Berger. She was the beloved wife to John W. Deebel for 41 years, who passed in November 2012.

A graduate of South Williamsport High School, Cathy often spoke of her fond memories as a proud member of the “Mounties” Marching Band and Drama Club. Cathy went on to graduate from the School of Commerce with her Associate’s degree. She worked many years at the Harrisburg State Hospital, later retiring from Keystone Residence of Lancaster after 20+ years of service. She was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Cathy was a member of “Dutch Bunch” with her husband John, making her famous chocolate cake for every corn roast. Cathy enjoyed her time in Coterie, Gourmet, and Card Club. Cathy, in her free time, enjoyed cross-stitching, playing solitaire, reading mysteries and attending musicals at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre.

A beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, Cathy is survived by her two children: Christine Santana (Chris Atz) and Mike Deebel (Tiena Tran), her sister Carolyn Berger (Monica Penn), and 5 grandchildren: Emma and Olivia Deebel, Ana and Christian Santana, and Tailynn Tran.

A viewing will take place on Monday, June 20 from 2-3 PM at Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, with a service to begin at 3 PM. Interment will take place on Tuesday, June 21 at noon at Muncy Cemetery. I worked with Cathy at Keystone. There was  always a bright, cheerful smile on her face and if I thought I had some kind of burden her smile lifted it away. She was a wonderful woman and coworker who always had time to give you a friendly encouraging word.
I am so sorry for your loss. Virginia Hitchcock

My condolences to Christy, Mike, and everyone in Cathy’s family.  For the first 8 years of my time in Keystone Human Services, I had the great luck to work with Cathy.  She was a great co-worker and friend.  Cathy was genuinely kind to everyone.  The most thoughtful person I have known.  I feel frotunate to have known her.  Rest in peace, my friend.

Please accept our sympathy at this sad time. The Deebel Family lost a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and Sister. Cathy was so proud of all members of her family.                                                                                 We lost a special friend. Cathy always loved checking our weekly menu which was posted on our refrigerator—looking for ideas. We had many laughs during our card games. Cathy always shared her yearly trip  to Williamsport for baseball.                                                                                                                                       Farewell Dear Friend,                Dennis and Louise

Dick and I were both so saddened to hear of Cathy’s passing. We loved her and could not imagine a day at Keystone without her. She was our office Mama and took care of us but could just as easily be our partner in mischeiviousness!  I remember her smile, her laugh, her love of her cherished family, her committment to the work we were doing, and her generosity with baked goods!  Her dedication to her work made us all better able to make it through each day. I can only imagine how happy she was to be blessed with her grandchildren! No gift would have made her happier. I can still see her smiling when a baby happened to be visiting the office. She filled our hearts with love and will always be part of the good things in our life. Sending love to her family and friends.  Robin and Dick Fields
